Dumbo the Flying Elephant is one of the most iconic attractions at Magic Kingdom. There is actually a version of this ride in every Disney Park across the globe as it is such a staple to the Disney theme park experience.

The Walt Disney World version was redone years ago when Magic Kingdom expanded its Fantasyland portion of the theme park and did away with Toontown. When this refurbishment was being done, Imagineers also worked on the Dumbo the Flying Elephant attraction to include two sides (allowing for the queue to move quicker) as well as a play area so that children can be entertained while they wait for their turn to ride.

Another iconic element of the Disney World version of Dumbo is that it includes water underneath the Dumbo ride vehicles — which adds a special touch of magic as Guests fly high in the sky. You can see the water we are referring to in the image above.

However, on a recent trip to Magic Kingdom, we noticed that this iconic water element was actually missing from the attraction!

In the images above and below, you can see that the water is completely drained and is currently missing from the Dumbo attraction in Magic Kingdom. We are unsure of how long the water has been missing.

We do want to note that this could be relating to the current water situation in Florida. If you aren’t familiar, a few weeks ago, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer asked residents to stop watering their lawns and washing their cars immediately as he said water usage needed to be cut back because of the recent surge of COVID-19 hospitalizations.

We are unsure if the drained water is relating to the water issue in Florida.

If you have never ridden Dumbo the Flying Elephant, the Disney World website describes the attraction as:

An “Ear”-born Adventure

Based on the 1941 Disney animated masterpiece Dumbo, this classic attraction lets you hop atop everybody’s favorite circus elephant as he discovers he can fly. Dumbo’s faithful friend Timothy Q. Mouse helps keeps you aloft with his “magic” feather.

As the jubilant organ melody begins, lift off for a graceful cruise around (and around and around) Storybook Circus.

Fly High or Stay Low

You can adjust your altitude during your flight, so you can soar high or swoop low.

Play While You Wait

Before your flight, step into the big-top tent and let your wild animals frolic in an air-conditioned children’s playground for all ages. You’ll be alerted when it’s time to board your flight!
