We are truly living in a digital age where nearly everything can be done with the press of a button. Theme parks are no exception to that rule and are constantly working on and introducing new ways to make Guests’ experiences even more seamless. Both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World have their own apps that can do almost anything a Guest needs, and now Disneyland has introduced a new feature to make things even easier!
Guests staying at one of two hotels at the Disneyland Resort — the Disneyland Hotel or Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa — will now have access to their room key right on their Disneyland app! The new digital key will allow theme park Guests to not only access their room, but also other parts of their hotel, including the pools and fitness centers. Select dining and shopping experiences can also be charged to the room with the digital key.
Using your new digital key has also been made incredibly easy. Here is some more information from Disney Parks Blog on how Guests can use their keys:
The digital key will be optional, and here are the steps for using the digital key:
- Link your hotel reservation to your Disney account in the Disneyland app or online.
- Complete online check-in up to five days prior to arrival, or check-in at the Front Desk upon arrival to complete the traditional process.
- Upon arrival, once your room is assigned and ready, you can access your room and locate your hotel room number within the digital key feature by tapping the “Unlock Door” button after signing in to your Disney account on the Disneyland app. If you completed online check-in, you can use your digital key to bypass the Front Desk and go straight to your room!
- Tap the “Unlock Door” button and then hold your mobile device against the door lock. A Bluetooth®-enabled device with the latest version of the Disneyland app is required.
It is important to note that, at this time, online check-in is available at the Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Grand Californian, and Paradise Pier, however, the new digital key option is only being offered at the Disneyland Hotel and the Grand Californian. The digital key will eventually make its way to Paradise Pier, but no time frame has been given for that.
In order for Guests to access their digital key, they must be signed into their Disneyland app.
