On October 1, 2021, Disney World will kick off its 50th anniversary celebration — and Guests will be treated to a ton of new, magical experiences. A new fireworks show will light up the skies at Magic Kingdom Park, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will open at EPCOT, and special decorations will cover all four of the theme parks. It will truly be an amazing time to take your Disney World vacation.
As part of the enchanting celebration, Disney will have 50 sculptures made to commemorate the event. The sculptures will be of 50 Disney characters who have helped bring Disney magic to Guests for years. Today, Disney revealed its first of the “Fab 50” sculptures, and it honors the mouse who started it all, Mickey!
Disney shared a special look at the statue, as well as a video message from the man who has been the voice of the famous mouse for the past 12 years, Bret Iwan. Disney Parks Blog shared the video, as well as some more on the meaning behind the statues:
The Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse sculptures are also being dedicated to Disney cast members of the past, present and future. After all, our cast – along with Mickey and Minnie- are truly considered the heart of the upcoming anniversary celebration.
Mickey and his longtime love, Minnie Mouse, will be found at the Magic Kingdom theme park, but a variety of sculptures will be found at all four of Disney World’s theme parks. In the coming weeks, more character sculptures will be revealed by not only Disney, but also Pixar, D23 — the official Disney fan club, Disney+, National Geographic, and more!
What also makes these sculptures even more fun is that Guests will be able to virtually collect them. Here is what Disney Parks Blog had to say about the fun challenge.
You can also virtually “collect” each golden Disney character sculpture on Instagram. To add a sculpture to Instagram Collections, just tap and hold the bookmark icon. Then, on the “Save to” screen, tap the collection where you want to save the image or create a new collection. Happy hunting!

Make sure to keep your eyes peeled as Disney releases more images of the Fab 5o sculptures that will celebrate Walt Disney World’s 5o anniversary. The celebration will run an astonishing 18 months, wrapping up in 2023.
