June 15 marked a big day for the state of California. Most pandemic-era protocols throughout the state were dropped — including the mandate that Guests visiting theme parks must wear face masks. Theme parks were quick to follow the guidance of California Health officials and also drop their mask mandates beginning June 15.
While Universal Studios Hollywood did not make an official announcement about its mask mandates, many Guests visiting the theme park on June 15 decided that they would follow California guidelines and walk around the park maskless. However, there were still some Guests that decided to air on the side of caution and kept their face masks on.
Universal Studios Hollywood reminds Guests that the no mask rule applies to only fully vaccinated Guests on both its website and on signage throughout the theme park. The Universal Hollywood website states the following:
The State of California strongly recommends that when you visit Universal Studios Hollywood you be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, obtain a negative COVID-19 test result prior to visiting, or wear a face covering. Guests who are not fully vaccinated should wear a face covering during their visit. We encourage all guests to wear face coverings indoors. Exposure to COVID-19 is an inherent risk in any public location where people are present; we cannot guarantee you will not be exposed during your visit.
While Guests are not required to wear face masks, Universal Studios Hollywood Team Members are still wearing them, and character photo ops are still being done at a socially safe distance in order to keep Universal Hollywood performers safe. Face characters, such as Marilyn Monroe, can also still be seen wearing their face masks for protection.
Universal Studios has not made an announcement as to when its character meet-and-greets will return to their pre-pandemic, up-close-and-personal experiences. Universal Hollywood is also not requiring Guests to show proof of vaccination but is instead relying on Guest honesty when it comes to wearing masks throughout the theme park.
