Because…the whole point of even MAKING another LOTR movie was that Warner wanted to flog its license one more time, and try and make one last effort to rescue the franchise from the Hobbit trilogy?

I don’t really see why anyone would think Disney would be involved in the first place…

Disney would manage to screw it up anyway just like Star Wars and all their live action remakes. Boring and uninspiring.

From my understanding, Miramax was actually required to sell the film rights, being an acquired subsidiary of Disney. To my understanding, Tolkien had it in his contract with Zaentz that Disney could never touch his works. (By the way, I have worked with the Hobbit/LotR license professionally for almost a decade as a Tolkien lore-expert.)

I hope Disney and Universal and Warner Bros won’t re-make the LOTR. I mean, Disney has just messed everything up in these last few years. The movies are starting to get worse (last good disney movie was probably 2015, 2016) and they have no imagination. J.R.R. Tolkien didn’t like Disney so I don’t know who Disney thinks they are by touching LOTR. The one person who can is Peter Jackson, (oh, and the Amazon series) because they have respect and know how to handle LOTR better than anybody else (when making movies, of course). The anime movie of LoTR is gonna be trash probably because anime IS trash. It’s so garbage and a waste of time and money. I think nobody should have the right to touch LoTR since also Peter Jackson can’t anymore. Too bad Peter Jackson couldn’t make a Silmarillion movie. It would be probably too good. I think the Tolkien Estate should block these foreigners like J.R.R. Tolkien did (which was the right thing to do).
I hope Disney won’t touch anything since they are becoming a HUGE mess already. Disney would lose soooooooo many followers if they do this.

Team Disney has enough problems with its own intellectual property (ie how many more live remakes of their classic animations are they going to schill out for the Disney Fan ??)

Warner Bros / New Line will do anything to make ? off whatever intellectual property they have (ie Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Looney Tunes), because that’s what Studios do!

Take a look at Universal with it’s own intellectual property featuring Classic Horror dating back to the late 20’s – trust me they will find a way to make ? from that (just like they’ve done with over a 15 years of Fast and Furious films!)

As consumers we will either be rewarded with great entertainment, or we will take our ? elsewhere and spend it (ie the choice to go to the cinema vs invest in a streaming service for viewing at home).

After butchering The Hobbit, Peter Jackson should not be allowed within a 100 mile radius of any Tolkien production. Even LotR ( while being in my top 5 films of all time – spectacular fantasy films) were rubbish as a LotR adaptation. Too many unnecessary changes, such as the completely asinine transformation from Tolkien’s ideal of humanity eager to become king so he could marry Arwen to whiny insecure teen (81 yr old teen, but you know what I mean.) As an aside, Viggo portrayed the role brilliantly, despite the lousy characterization he was given… just think how much more brilliant he could have shone had Jackson not loosed things up.

      Er, Aragorn’s transformation that is
