Universal Orlando Resort is starting to bounce back from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic by returning a lot of its operations to a more normal state. Now, that includes the Bubba Gump Shrimp mascot — a truly iconic part of Universal CityWalk!

Today marks the first day Universal has rid themselves of temperature checks after the Florida Health Department deemed them unnecessary, and they are also following the CDC guidelines and reducing social distancing to 3 feet, as opposed to the previous 6 feet.

We have also seen social distancing disappear in theaters, as well as single rider lines reopen, which means that single riders could ride next to another party on an attraction. Universal Orlando’s app even notes that things are returning to “normal”, so it seems that the theme park is ready to move towards their operations that were intact before the pandemic.

When Guests are walking to Universal Studios Florida or Universal’s Islands of Adventure, they must first walk through CityWalk. At CityWalk, Guests can eat, drink, shop, and enjoy Universal entertainment! One very fun aspect about CityWalk happens just as Guests enter. On the left side just after the moving walkway is a Bubba Gump restaurant. The popular dining spot typically has a wait, but even if you are not eating there, there is always a reason to visit.

The CityWalk Shrimp mascot which belongs to the restaurant typically greets CityWalk Guests by snapping photos, interacting, and dancing! During the pandemic, the iconic mascot took a break, but now, we can see that the shrimp is back!

As you can see below, CityWalk Shrimp (@CityWalkShrimp) Tweeted:

I am now available for dancin’ in the streets, photo ops, and high fives!

Although our favorite shrimp does not directly belong to Universal Orlando Resort, if CityWalk Shrimp is willing to give high-fives, it seems that this will be the first non socially distanced character meet and greet on property!

CityWalk Shrimp helps bring life and fun energy to all Guests at Universal Orlando Resort, whether you are coming or going.

It will be interesting to see if Universal takes a page from Bubba Gump’s book and also changes the way they do their meet and greets with characters who can be found in either theme park.
