Very soon, Cast Members and Guests at Walt Disney World Resort will not have to undergo temperature screenings before entering their Orlando theme parks. As guidance and regulations have relaxed across the state of Florida, Disney has held firm in its standards and mandates. But now, news has broken that Disney World will soon phase out the temperature screenings later this month.
Disney World to Phase Out Temperature Screenings
News has broken from Disney that following the advice of the CDC and our local health officials, they will phase out onsite temperature screenings at Walt Disney World Resort for Cast Members beginning May 8 and later Disney World Guests on May 16, 2021.
First appearing in July 2020 before the phased reopening, the temperature screening tents popped up fairly quickly in anticipation of returning crowds. They are, likewise, found at Disneyland as the parks started welcoming folks back on April 30 to enjoy the attractions. (Keep in mind that temperature screenings are still in place at Disneyland Resort and the California Disney Parks have not said they are phasing them out at this time.)
Only a few days ago (May 1, 2021) the Orange County Health Department said that temperature checks were no longer necessary as they are now a waste of resources and “makes no difference.” Face coverings are still required and spacing is still in effect during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
From Disney’s Experience Updates Page, we found the following information:
Temperature Screenings
Since reopening, we have considered guidance from public health authorities, government agencies, and our own team of health and safety experts as we assess and update health and safety measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
As this guidance continues to evolve, and with the support of local health and government officials, we are making some additional adjustments. Following the advice of the CDC and our local health officials, we will phase out onsite temperature screenings at Walt Disney World Resort for Cast Members beginning May 8 and Guests on May 16.
We will continue to follow the guidance of health and safety leaders going forward and most importantly encourage people to get vaccinated.
