Finally they are moving in the right direction. With 3 highly effective vaccines available and with children being at very low risk, it’s time the people decide for themselves how they want to protect themselves. People who took the vaccine should not have to strap on a mask to placate those who are irrationally afraid or those who choose not to vaccinate.

    1. DEBRA RUSOVICK

      I agree with you.

      1. Dan

Happy they continue to adapt as science learns more about disease and vaccines. No mask outdoors will make summer more pleasant.
Masks indoors is perfectly fine for now. Experts still learning more and Disney wants to still protect customers to a reasonable extent.

        1. Sue

There is nothing to learn. It’s a common cold with a 97% recovery rate.

    2. Reaper

And people who choose not to vaccinate shouldn’t have to wear a mask to placate those who are irrationally afraid of a virus with a 99.98% survival rate…

    3. Jeremy

I totally agree. More importantly so does the data and science.

  2. Larry

Yes, one more step towards normalcy. Our family has a summer trip planned and wearing a mask all day in the heat is a great concern. I’m glad there is some relief. I can accept wearing them in theaters and shops (even going to the rest rooms).

How will the parks ever enforce this? Even at 6 foot distancing, larger families fill up the entire space and are breathing down one another’s neck. How do they know who has been vaccinated? Are they checking to see everyone’s mask as they enter the parks? Now that there is no limit to how many people are entering the parks, I see trouble brewing.

    1. Kenr

There should be no “enforcement”. People can take care of themselves and decide what is best for them and where they want to go. With 3 highly effective and free vaccines available for everyone over 11 years old, there is not longer a need for any of the Covid measures.

The problem is that the choices they make for themselves can impact others around them. Until we can have a period where there are no new cases, there’s no way they can responsibly lift all restrictions.

If you are vaccinated…my choice won’t affect you…quit being so soft

      3. Shell

By take care of themselves, do you suggest a stretch and quick turn when others still want to breathe down your neck? That’s usually what I end up doing after an excuse me doesn’t work. ?‍♀️

    2. Stan

They can’t enforce it. And whatever happened to the issue of vaccinated people needing to wear masks to avoid getting COVID and being asymptomatic and infecting non-vaccinated people? Just shows it was all political theater confirmed by CDC lying about “10%” risk of getting COVID while outdoors when it was less than 1% risk.

      1. MATT

CDC theater? Hundreds of thousands died this last year. You sound like an ass.

      2. Paul

Stan, not political theater. This is the *novel* SARS-CoV-2, where the term novel means brand new, never before seen, no research or information about it other than the general class of corona viruses. And the vaccines were not only new, but pushed through with emergency authorization to save lives. And two of them used technology never before applied to a vaccine. So, yeah, there had to be some time to learn how it all worked, and what didn’t. And, to save lives, sometimes were more cautious than some people would have liked. Get over it. No conspiracy theories. Just people trying to do their best in a terrible situation.

p.s. 1% death rate overall would have been well over 3 million people just in the US. Learn math.

        1. Stan

Hey people, learn reading comprehension. I said the CDC spoke of OUTDOORS infection rate which was bogus, not COVID. And as far as how many people died of COVID, when they do an audit and deduct all the people who died in car accidents, motorcycle accidents, heart attacks, etc. that they classified as COVID deaths because hospitals were financially incentivized to make everything COVID, then let’s talk about real COVID death numbers.

      3. Sue

Asymptomatic people do not and never have spread diseases or viruses of any kind.

        1. Stan

Tell that to the CDC, who says otherwise:
“Although the risk that fully vaccinated people could become infected with COVID-19 is low, any fully vaccinated person who experiences symptoms consistent with COVID-19 should isolate themselves from others.” Look it up

          1. Reaper

Considering CDC says asymptomatic persons aren’t a major driver of the virus and less than 0.7% of cases were caused this way…I’d say move on chicken little

        2. Gary

Sue, where do you get your knowledge from? Factually, that is simply wrong. Take the famous case of Typhoid Mary for instance.

I am sure that you are doing your research and learning about diseases before making a statement like that. But whatever resources you are using are truly faulty.

I recommend trying some different sources.

      4. Bryan

It is about time. I should never have to wear a mask just only to accommodate people who are unvaccinated. The unvaccinated people should get vaccinated or accept the risks of not being vaccinated. Vaccines are free so cost is not a barrier preventing anybody from getting vaccinated.

    3. Fred Johnson

If you’re vaccinated you don’t need to worry about me and my family. If you’re that concerned, stay home. Isn’t “stay home” what everyone told people who didn’t want to wear a mask to do last year? Now that “science” has said this opening up is acceptable…don’t turn into a science denier. It seems to me that too many people are worried about controlling others versus worrying about their own actions.

    4. LL

There’s actually nothing to enforce outdoors. If I were unvaccinated I would be concerned, but unvaccinated people shouldn’t be attending mass gatherings in the first place. They place themselves at risk.

  4. Anna

What a relief. Now they need to get going and bring back the parades, fireworks, and reopen all dining experiences. I will then plan my annual trip.

  5. Carolyn

Thank you Mickey. See ya real soon.

  6. LL

    Bring back the fireworks!

  7. Kimberly Rasmussen

One step closer to my Family going as there was no way we were going to go while having to wear a mask all day.

  8. Dustin Bollnow

It’s a start, but it’s about time. I’ve been waiting for this news for a long time like the rest of you.

  9. Kerin

Everyone should still wear a mask even if you had the vaccine you can’t put your health at risk numbers are still high and people are still getting sick even though they got the vaccine

    1. stacey

Please do more independent research and look at the real numbers. My kids have been in school mask optional for a year with NO issues. Your fear doesn’t translate well.

    2. Ham

CDC says that’s not necessary…are you a science denier…now that the science has gone against your need to live in fear you don’t believe?

  10. Now if they could only quit wussing out about so call organized pushing their will about cartoon rides.

  11. M

So happy mask mandate outdoors no longer at WDW! That is one of our 3 requirements we need to see happen before we visit Disney this Aug. First was no masks outdoors (would prefer a mask optional indoors too because let’s face it, we’re all capable of making our own safety decisions and I’m tired of having to protect those who choose to be unvaccinated now) 2nd is for Disney to restore entertainment, and 3rd is bring back FP+! We’d really like more dining options too but the first 3 are deal breakers for this Aug 2021 trip or we will be going somewhere else to spend our money. One down, 2 to go!

  12. Sue

Demings didn’t have a choice. The Florida Governor lifted all covid19 restrictions along with any enforcement of same. All local governments only had so many days to do the same. Vaccines passports have been banned in Florida. In some ways the theme parks also had zero choices but do to as the governor said.

    1. Jordan

Well, considering they are a private business, they can honestly keep the mask mandate going as long as they want, hence why they still require you to wear them inside or in line for a ride. Only reason they are no longer requiring it outside is because the CDC said it would be fine, though seeing how some of the people here commented, I can see a rise in cases.

      1. Joe jackson

People keep wishing for that rise in cases so they can point a finger and say “see, see, see” and that spike never occurs…get on with living, softie

  13. Kraken

Hooray! One step closer to normalcy and our family spending the money to come back. Keep those steps coming!

    1. Suarez

  14. Shell

I hope they keep the 3 feet distance and don’t go trying to overfill capacity like they did before covid. It was getting ridiculous with the number of people they were trying to squeeze just for the $$$.. Years ago after so many people there would be a sign on your way in saying the park had reached capacity for the day and rides never had the 2 to 3 hour waits they had recently. There is no need to have such long wait times or for people to be pushing right on your back.

  15. Shellie Karm

Yeah for normalcy! It’s about time! Now let’s bring back the rest of the magic… fireworks, fast pass, dining, and characters.. those are the reasons to choose Disneyworld over other theme parks!

  16. Jess

This is great news and hope and pray that this will eventually lead to a total elimination of the mask rule. I have been going to theme parks this past year where there is no mask requirement on the rides, and what do ya know..I’m still alive. I don’t know how the CDC has become the new government and controlling what every person and business does. After all the CDC does not have a great track record. If you can sit inside a restaurant without a mask, than common sense would say it’s safe to get on an attraction without one as well. I don’t stop breathing when I’m eating. The over-reaction to this virus has been ridiculous. I finally am starting to meet people who have had it and not one of them ended up going to the doctor. Some even had underlying health issues. I have a compromised immune system and have not followed or been around any one following any CDC guidance and have not been sick at all. If a mask wearer does not get poisoned with CO2 than obviously those respiratory particles are getting out. May the magic come back for everyone, as long as Disney stops destroying classic attractions because certain people get too sensitive and political. But that’s a whole other story.

  17. Jess

I caution everyone who is thinking about the vaccine. This is an experimental vaccine. No one knows the long term effects. My wife was on a medication for lupus. Had been around for 7 years. She was continuing her research on it which doctors do not do, and found that it had been causing liver failure after taking it for 7 years. Her doctor had no idea and told my wife she was crazy and stupid. She struggled to get herself off of it, and it’s finally out of her system and she does accupuncture and herbs and feels 100 percent better

  18. jo

Bring back the fireworks, parades, dining plans, fast passes, meet and greets. ( I could use a Mickey hug). Bring back MNSSHP.
