I can’t say I’m particularly surprised. Disney’s managed to hold on through the pandemic, which is certainly better than a lot of entertainment venues, but the truth is, the tourism trade is going to take a long time to recover from this. In addition, they’ve been hemorrhaging money with the west coast closed, so they probably feel like ‘they have enough hotels for now’ and that opening another massive facility isn’t necessary nor desirable.
The Star Wars thing went ahead because it’s a small number of beds (comparatively) and more importantly, is a very VERY expensive ’boutique’ experience that will net a large amount of reward with a comparatively minimal outlay.
This will ruin Fort Wilderness, especially at the special times of Halloween and Christmas when the people from this resort will overrun the usually quant quiet Fort.

Oh please, I hope this is permanently scrapped.
