One of the most popular character dining spots for breakfast on Walt Disney World property is Trattoria al Forno. In case you aren’t familiar, this table service restaurant is located on Disney’s Boardwalk and Guests are able to dine with storybook friends including Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, Ariel, and Prince Eric.
However, due to the pandemic, Disney World had to eliminate the character dining experience for breakfast at this location.

Of course, as Disney World’s website states, the character portion of breakfast is not currently operating due to the pandemic and healthy and safety concerns. But the restaurant is still offering delicious options when it comes to food — So we wanted to find out if dining at Trattoria al Forno for breakfast was worth it without the character experience.
Is Trattoria al Forno Worth It Without Characters?
I dined at Trattoria on my recent trip to see if it was the same experience as it was prior to the pandemic, and honestly, it was an entirely different experience.
I was happy to see enforced social distancing measures and plexiglass put into place and the staff was incredibly friendly. My waitress went above and beyond and made me feel extremely special. However, compared to the pre-pandemic experience — It just wasn’t the same.
For starters — I did not receive the pastries at the beginning of my meal as Guests used to when the characters were present. I was really looking forward to the Tangled-shaped sun pastry. However, I assume because of no characters, it meant no pastries — Big disappointment.
I ordered a mimosa to start and that was delicious, as always — Highly recommend.
For my meal, I ordered the omelet (It used to be called the Tangled eggs). In case you’ve never ordered this dish, it is a fresh mozzarella, tomato-basil omelet served with Sunday gravy, breakfast potatoes, and a choice of bacon or sausage. I have always ordered this dish, even pre-pandemic. However, I always make some changes, For instance, I am not a fan of Sunday gravy on my eggs so I order it without. Additionally, I do not eat meat, so instead of the bacon or sausage, the waitress offered me fresh fruit.
Overall, the food was absolutely delicious (as always). It was, as I previously mentioned, just a bit disappointing not being able to have the pastry starter that they used to offer.
Bottom line — If you experienced Trattoria al Forno when they hosted the character breakfast, you will be disappointed. However, if you have never experienced breakfast at this Boardwalk eatery, then I say give it a try! The food is phenomenal and the atmosphere it relaxing. It’s just that if you’ve been here with the characters — and when they gave out the bonus pastry starter — you are inevitably going to compare to the old experience with the current one and it’s just not the same.
At this time, Disney has not confirmed if this particular character dining experience will be returning or not when normal operations resume after the pandemic.
