  1. Stop pandering to the alphabet crew—sickening!

    1. Darth Senses

…And once again cue the anti-cancel culture crowd whining.

      1. Charlie Murphy

        Cue the snowflakes

        1. Darth Senses

Gotta agree with you. The Anti-Cancel Culture Crowd sure is made up of a bunch of snowflakes who whine EVERY time about change.

          1. T Luc

I don’t get it. What is anti- cancel culture crowd?

    2. Kate isn't Great

LOL, being LGBT and seeing representation out there isnt disgusting, being negative and hateful towards groups of people is hateful… but you just stay an ignorant white woman, Miss Katherine Brem. I’m not afraid of you. I feel sorry for your hateful self…

      1. EricJ

Uh, you DO know she made it up as an improv line, right? Like, not in the script or directorial intent?

(Basically, sort of like Tessa Thompson going around saying “Oh, did I mention my Marvel’s character’s gay? They didn’t have time to say so in Endgame, because she only had one speaking scene, but she really IS, y’know!”)

      2. ???????

        “representation” is only about narcissism.

There are many legitimate reasons to find the lugbut lifestyle abhorrent. Not all of them “hateful”. You wouldn’t know that because you have been duped by the lugbut mafia to believe that disagreement is on the same level of “hate”.

“hate” is yet another buzzword you liberals have made completely meaningless.

    3. You'retheonewhoiswrong

You’re sickening. Why does straight have to be the default?

      1. Straightpride

        Huh?

      2. TC

Because nature made it that way…Man and Woman are each others natural counterparts…if everybody took up a gay lifestyle there would be no people.

    4. Umm, excuse me are you sickened by LGBTQ people.

  2. T Luc

This is Disney. What else did you expect?

    1. Darth Senses

T Luc, to answer your question from above:

The Anti-Cancel Culture Crowd are all the people who come out every time something changes (for instance, when a business, such as Disney or the publishers of Dr. Seuss, makes a free market decision for whatever reason the business decides) and then these people start whining and tossing about the phrase “Cancel Culture!” because they are against Cancel Culture (or whatever it is they perceive as such). Thus, they are “Anti-Cancel Culture”.

Watch for it, they tend to show up a lot around comment boards (and CPAC conventions).

      1. T Lucc

So why the sudden need to change and cancel stuff? And who’s doing all the cancelling? And who decides what gets cancelled?

  3. EricJ

    Why, thank you, Kelly–
Oh, and unless you were in the Storyboard development rooms for the last two years, WTH ASKED YOU???

    1. Sarah Z.

      Oh. My. Freaking. Word.
Ever since the wonderfully acvlaimed Frozen came out, it’s been nonstop “Oh oh oh! She’s gay she’s gay she’s TOTALLY GAY!!! 😍😍😍😍 Disney finally got their act together! But it’s nowhere near enough. Let’s pressure and hound the creators of the films until they yield to our commands with our clever and not at all pushy #GiveElsaAGirlfriend “pitch””!!!!!!
LGBT gets PLENTY of representation on practically every channel. Leave kuds’ programs out of it!! The liberal agenda always has to ruin everything and take away anything family friendly and wholesome these days, give it a rest you bloodhounds.

  4. HarvardHaloGirl

Love the article and the representation!! Just want to add that Merida predates Moana and Elsa (the non protagonist, non princess) as a female princess who has no love interest. The word princess is pretty Euro-centric, and Merida and Moana both count as “Disney princesses”.

  5. Billie

What a load of horse hockey… To say her character is gay is a load of crap..it’s a story. There is nothing sexual about it….A girl, her father, their people…. To make it anything else is just more Liberal BS of the huge variety. It makes me sick that there is any thought of any sexuality in a film like this. I’m gonna go throw up now. Thanks.

    1. QuelleProvincial

Just curious, Billie; did you think there was “any thought of sexuality” in, say, The Little Mermaid or Cinderella? Or do you give those stories a pass because it’s the “right” kind of attraction?

      1. Protectourkids

Yes, many Christians believe homosexuality is a sin.

        1. your mom

everyone isn’t christian though so your argument is invalid

  6. TiredofThis

This is meaningless to me. It’s one thing to SAY something and another to actually SHOW something.

Unless Disney nuts up and actually gives these characters a love interest of the same gender then I’m not applauding them for doing the bare minimum.

  7. Brenda

I say cancel everything out there and be done with it.

    1. Soduko

Agreed, it would make everything a lot simpler. Just cancel everyone and everything and we can all go back to minding our own damn business and stop running our collective mouths about crap!

  8. Grumpy wolf

Ffs, who cares!? Also it doesn’t matter what the actor says, it matters what the writer says.

  9. bobby

why is no one addressing the real issue?…how can she do the voice over for a gay character when she is
    isn’t gay herself?… where’s the outrage?!?…

  10. Larry Schuchardt

Isnt it enough shes the hero …thats all that matters…why does it matter if shes gay WHHHHHOOOOOPPPPPPIIIEEEEEE! NO ONE CARES

  11. Rich

Then pandering to the obvious ultimate target market of China was more obvious than any gay overtones.

  12. Juanjo

The question here is, who cares? I mean sexual orientation is a personal matter. Why should it be relevant to an animated fictional production?

  13. Jamie

As my kid gets older, we have been watching less of Disney. No reason to keep dropping political nonsense in movies. I watch movies to watch movies. Same as kids but when adult content is in them that most kids don’t get or understand, it becomes ridiculous. It’s the parents job to teach their children these things, not Disney or the movies. Haven’t seen the movie but when people who play the characters come out & say things like this, you just made it political agenda & turns me away. Movies & sports need to get away from this crap.

  14. Tim

    I. Don’t. Care!!!!! STOP PUSHING SEX ON KIDS!!!!

    1. Lieke van Knippenberg

Hey tim, question for you. Is the relationship between Anna and Kristoff pushing sex on kids? Or underaged snow white being kissed by an adult prince? Or any other couple? Or are you just mad this isn’t the kind of romance you want your kids to see?

      1. Protectourkids

For your information, many people believe homosexuality is a sin. It’s not ok for Disney to glorify homosexuality in children’s movies.

        1. Thsnk yoy so much for saying that people on here are saying im disgusting for being lesbian but you didnt and stood up for me and thank you for that.

  15. Sakura Tomoe

In other words, that’s Kelly Tran’s crack ship. It’s ok, i like unrealistic ships too, like Elsa x Anna, but until there’s a kiss, or even romantically holding hands, it’s nothing but fanfiction.

  16. Nobody cares about a fake character’s sex “choice”
And certainly a child is not in any way, shape or form thinking of anything remotely near this subject.
Let children be children and adults stop putting adult issues into a cartoon movie.

  17. s

stop pushing gay agenda on everyone. this is a kids cartoon.

  18. emma

I like how nobody complains about how sexuality isn’t relevant and that it’s gross and that nobody cares and that it’s forcing kids to think about things they shouldn’t when the character is straight. Anna saying she liked Kristoff better in leather? Totally fine, that’s a heterosexual couple after all. 19 year old prince kissing an underaged sleeping girl? Yup all good, they’re straight. Girl falling in love with a guy she just met? Yeah that’s cute. But God forbid that there’s even a suggestion that a character might be LGBTQA+ right? Just say you’re homophobic and leave.

    1. Protectourkids

Just say you’re heterophobic and leave.

    2. Sexual choice conversation is just not needed in a child’s movie. It is very clear that some adults are perverted in their thinking that a child, a child again a child needs to be exposed to adult choice about sex!
Why are people so bent on this. You can not change from a Man to a Woman it is impossible and a scientific and medical fact. So superficial and unnatural, just not the best you can be you were made just right with nothing wrong as a man or woman

  19. Sarah Z.

  20. You'retheonewhoiswrong

You’re sickening. Why does straight have to be the default?

  21. Mindy T

I want to know why the public thinks every princess needs some kind of love interest,be it gay or straight? Can a lead girl not just be kicking butt on her own, maybe they just aren’t interested in anyone. U know some ppl do grow up and never get married.

    1. Kia

There already is reprensentation for them, Merida, Elsa and Moana.

      1. Shut Up I’m Begging You

Literally everyone in this comment section needs to stfu. Homophobia isn’t cute, little kids are allowed to see romance and love no matter what form it takes, and guess what? Raya sets off my gaydar so stop complaining about Disney pushing a narrative and enjoy a really sweet movie with a princess who is definitely queer, regardless of your opinions of the subject.

  22. Last plague doctor

What is the point of the character being gay? It doesn’t add anything to the story and means nothing to the progressing character arc…
This is simply to tick off diversity box’s for no other reason than to satisfy the woke community to virtue signal. A great character can be great without us knowing who she sleeps with contrary to woke progressivism.

  23. Last plague doctor

Whats the point of making the character gay? It adds nothing to the story and does nothing for the character progression ark…
Contrary to progressive beliefs, a great character can be great without us knowing who they sleep with. Their just doing this to tick diversity box’s, pander and virtue signal.
This is kind of a cheap way just to get pop from other progressives.

  24. Mike

    Meanwhile the movie bombs. LOL
