Previously, on December 1, 2020, Disney announced the third closure for Hong Kong Disneyland due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic stating, “As required by the government and in line with preventive efforts taking place across Hong Kong, Hong Kong Disneyland park will temporarily close beginning December 2. We are in close contact with health authorities and the government about the situation and will announce a reopening date once they determine it is advisable.”

Now, it is confirmed that Hong Kong Disneyland will reopen in a matter of days. Disney Magical Kingdom Blog noted that “Health Secretary Professor Sophia Chan today announced that the Hong Kong Government will ease coronavirus restrictions which have been set in place to minimize the spread of the virus starting from February 18, 2021. The arrangement will include the re-opening of fitness centers, sports and entertainment facilities, theme parks, and cinemas, etc.”
Since then, Hong Kong Disneyland’s spokesperson said:
“We welcome the government’s announcement to allow our park to reopen. We will follow the latest regulations and guidance from the government and health authorities and have been proactively preparing for the park’s reopening. We are currently arranging the COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction-based nucleic acid test (PCR test) for our cast members, so that the park can reopen as soon as possible when the circumstances allow.”
We continue to await more updates from the official Hong Kong Disneyland website. An official reopening date for the theme park has not yet been published on the website.

As we have previously reported, Hong Kong Disneyland first reopened on June 18 after being closed for 143 days but suffered its second closure on July 15. It remained shuttered for another 73 days before reopening again on September 25. After being closed for another 78 days, it seems that Hong Kong Disneyland can soon show off their newly completed construction of the new Castle of Magical Dreams, and began celebrating its 15 Anniversary.Â
During the previous opening, Hong Kong Disneyland remained closed for Tuesdays and Thursdays, so it will be interesting to see if the park imposes any restrictions on active park hours, or continues to implement dark days as they have in the past.
Now, this will leave only Disneyland Resort in Southern California and Disneyland Paris as the two closed Disney theme park destinations worldwide. Disneyland Paris is set to reopen in April; however, Disneyland and Disney California Adventure in California are currently closed due to state restrictions amid the ongoing pandemic. Governor Newsom continues to hold theme park reopening guidelines in place which will not allow Disneyland to reopen until there is only one positive COVID-19 case daily per 100,000 residents.
Are you glad Hong Kong Disneyland is reopening? Do you plan to visit soon?
