Could anyone play Indiana Jones other than Harrison Ford? Could they do an Indiana Jones movie without the Indie character?

Johnny Depp/Jack Sparrow is the PotC movie franchise – it’s as simple as that. Take him out and you have nothing – Just a pirate movie. In fact, there would not have been a multi-movie PotC franchise without him! He made that character unique and highly enjoyable to watch even when the later movie’s plots were not that good.

And please… must everything be pushed to this LBGT -QRST. — whatever it is agenda? Stop it all! Let well enough alone!

The thing with Johnny Depp, love him or loathe him, even in movies that flop with him in, he is a massive draw and his characters would only work with Depp playing them. I would like to draw attention to Chris Brown, a singer who used to beat up his former girlfriend, Rihanna, but people seem to have forgotten that and he still gets to number 1 in the charts on both sides of the atlantic, but Depp tries to fight against a tabloid newspaper for slanderous language for something they don’t truly have evidence about other than what Amber said, and okay the court ruled in favour of the newspaper, but it’s no different to Chris Brown. I will still watch his movies and enjoy them, Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd, PotC, all amazing movies and I refuse to be told what to watch in case it offends someone who won’t be with me watching because i’ve never met them or been in the same country as them. They tried an all female Oceans movie and and all female Ghostbusters, and both flopped!

Disney needs to wake up and realize those movies would not have been the success they were if not for Depp. Take him out and it will be a total flop. Listen to the fans Disney. It’s where your money comes from.

    So much to say.

Let’s start with Johnny Depp did a fantastic job and the series wouldn’t be where it is today without him and yes, it’d be awesome to see him in action again.

Okay, now the discussion. Can anybody else ever play Jack Sparrow? The answer is yes. No, it won’t be the same. But a good enough character can always be brought to life by a good enough actor who adds their own tilt to the performance. James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, heck, Dumbledore are testament to this. It takes great re-casting and usually a movie or so before, we the audience, are used to the new version of a favorite character.

The bigger question: Does the franchise NEED Jack Sparrow? The answer is no. It’s called “PirateS” not “Pirate of the Caribbean.” There is, anthology style, a whole ocean of characters that could be created. The hard part: inventing new characters to lead that are JUST as engaging. Rogue One and Mandalorian proved this can be done in a major franchise.

The bigger problem is the marketing of LGBT as one of the first selling points of the new movie. Inclusion is a great thing and should absolutely be championed, BUT few people want to see a rebooted Pirates BECAUSE it is LGBT.

If the movie was just allowed to come out, and the character turned out to be LGBT, yes, there are always the bigots, but most people wouldn’t care as long as the movie was great. Instead, now, we’re distracted because we’re wondering if the Disney writing team (with all good intentions) has already lost focus on what makes a strong plot.

We don’t want to hear, “It’s Margot Robbie and she’s LGBT!” unless the story is ABOUT being LGBT in a pirate world. Instead, we WANT to hear, “It’s Margot Robbie and she’s looking for Atlantis!” Later, when we’re watching the movie, it can be all the LGBT it wants. But, we the audience, will have gone in there feeling they stayed targeted to make the best Pirate Story they could.
