It wasn’t long ago Disney announced it would be opening up Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure as an “expansion” to its Downtown Disney District. Buena Vista Street officially reopened today, Thursday, November 19. If you are planning on visiting Disney California Adventure now that it officially reopened for dining and shopping, there is something very important you may want to keep in mind.
One of the things people are looking forward to most is the fact that they can, after eight long months, once again take a bite into a delicious Disney corn dog, a sweet and crunchy Disney churro, and other delicious foods. However, it is very important that Guests understand they cannot place a mobile order in order outside of Buena Vista Street to gain access into Disney California Adventure.
Currently, Award Wieners and Smokejumpers Grill accept mobile order. But Guests should wait until they enter DCA to place an order.
When visiting Buena Vista Street today, our Inside the Magic reporter received this notification, which reads, “Welcome to Buena Vista Street. At this time, only Guests who have entered Buena Vista Street will be able to pick up a mobile order. Note: Placing a mobile order at Smokejumpers Grill or Award Wieners will not grant you access to Buena Vista Street.”
This is very important to keep in mind because if you place an order outside of the gates to Disney California Adventure, you will not be able to go inside to pick up your order unless Cast Members allow you in, which they are managing due to capacity levels and restrictions. Guests must wait in a standby line or — as needed — join a virtual queue to get into Buena Vista Street. Then, they may place a mobile order at an available dining location.
This is similar to Disney’s previous announcement regarding dining reservations over at Disney Springs when it reopened in May. Even if Guests secure a dining reservation, if Disney Springs reaches capacity, Guests will not be allowed inside. You can read more about this and the other guidelines of Disney Springs here.
If you plan on visiting Buena Vista Street and want to know exactly what shops and dining locations will be open, Disney Parks Blog recently shared, “Only the shopping and dining experiences along Buena Vista Street will be accessible from the Downtown Disney District at this time, as Disney California Adventure park is currently closed.”
This includes the following:
- Elias & Co
- Julius Katz & Sons
- Kingswell Camera Shop
- Carthay Circle Lounge — Alfresco Dining
- Smokejumpers Grill
- Award Wieners
- Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe
- Trolley Treats
- Vending carts (popcorn, churros, ice cream, and “other ‘must-bite’ treats”)
It is important to keep in mind that the opening of Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure is an “expansion” of the Downtown Disney District. Due to the current state guidelines, larger theme parks in California, such as Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood, cannot resume operations until the state hits Tier 4 (Yellow/Minimal). You can read more about the state guidelines here.
