Walt Disney World fans have been anxiously awaiting the opening of EPCOT’s new Space 220 restaurant. The space-themed dining establishment was originally set to open in Winter 2019 — then pushed back to February 2020 when the original Executive Chef stepped away from the project.

Then, of course, the coronavirus outbreak forced all six of Disney’s theme parks worldwide to temporarily close. Disney World shut down in March. This further delayed the opening of EPCOT’s new intergalactic dining experience.
Now, Twitter’s @ScottGustin has reported a possible new opening date for Space 220.
I’m now hearing March 2021 as a possible goal date for Space 220… but that timeline comes with the same footnote I shared back in February: https://t.co/WCJc7uLeLo

The February Tweet quipped:
Any rumored opening date for Space 220 should be in quotes, air quotes, italics, and sarcasm font at this point. The construction delays are a legit problem — and the reports about glass issues are true.
The “reports about the glass” Gustin referred to indicate that a huge pane of glass, presumably custom-made for the Disney World construction project, was broken and had to be re-made. This, in all likelihood, proved challenging amid the pandemic.

As you can see from this artist rendering, the restaurant is set to feature a lot of glass window panes, so one getting broken would undoubtedly derail the overall construction process.
Disney’s official description of Space 220 reads:
Embark on the ultimate culinary exploration from this new expansion of the Mission: SPACE pavilion.
Step inside Space 220—a celestial panorama of a space station—for a delicious meal! As you dine, peer out and enjoy amazing daytime and nighttime views of Earth from 220 miles up.
The restaurant is part of the EPCOT theme park’s major reimagining.
Please keep in mind Disney has not yet released a statement on the opening of Space 220. Inside the Magic will continue to update you as we get new information.
