Big news, Disney Cruise Line fans! Changes will be coming to Disney Cruise Line stateroom categories in less than two years.

As part of the announcement of 2022 itineraries and the upcoming maiden voyage of the Disney Wish, the company also shared that stateroom changes are coming in the future.

Below is the official information from Disney:

Updated Stateroom Categories

Beginning in 2022, Disney Cruise Line will be updating existing stateroom categories to provide greater consistency across the fleet.

We are eliminating some categories and modifying the concierge categories in an effort to make things more intuitive for our guests. Not all stateroom categories are changing, and the number of staterooms and cabin numbers will remain the same for all ships.

These changes will not go into effect until 2022. For sailings in 2020 and 2021, we will continue to sell the current stateroom categories.

Disney Wish - Rendering
The Disney Cruise Line fleet has the most beautiful ships at sea and the Disney Wish, setting sail in early 2022, will be no exception. This rendering depicts the magnificent exterior of the fifth Disney ship that will elevate family cruise vacations to a whole new level. (Disney)

For reference, here is a list of the current staterooms types and categories aboard the Disney Fantasy:

Four main categories encompass 10 different room types—or different deck locations within those types.

Concierge
Our most luxurious accommodations, each with a large private verandah and premium amenities and services:

  • Concierge Royal Suite with Verandah
  • Concierge 1-Bedroom Suite with Verandah
  • Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah

Verandah
Our most spacious non-Concierge staterooms, each with a private verandah, some with partial views:

  • Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah
  • Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah
  • Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Navigator’s Verandah

Oceanview
Enjoy more space than Standard and scenic vistas through a real porthole window—or possibly 2!

  • Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom
  • Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom

Inside
Our base accommodations, each with a Magical Porthole showing real-time ocean views and animated Disney characters.

  • Deluxe Inside Stateroom
  • Standard Inside Stateroom

So, what could these stateroom changes be? Presumably, they have something to do with the Disney Wish and possibly the stateroom differences that may be present on that ship, which will be the newest in the Disney Cruise fleet. The changes coming in a couple of years are being made to “provide greater consistency” across what will be five Disney Cruise ships. So while we don’t yet know what changes will be made, we are interested to find out in the future.

As stated above, changes for stateroom categories across the ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet (the Disney Dream, Disney Magic, Disney Fantasy, Disney Wonder, and the soon-to-debut Disney Wish) will not go into effect until 2022. So for any sailings that will take place in the remainder of 2020, as well as all sailings for next year, 2021, stateroom categories will be sold as they have been.
