‘Star Wars: The High Republic’ Reveals a Young Yoda!
Move over Baby Yoda, Star Wars has just given us our very first look at a Young Yoda from the new Star Wars: The High Republic set of stories that are set to be released soon.
The High Republic set of comics and stories are set 200 years before the events of The Phantom Menace which would make Yoda around 700 years old at the time of The High Republic.
Check out the first look at Yoda below:
Many Star Wars fans will notice that his Jedi robes here are somewhat different to the robes we see the Jedi Order wearing during the events of the prequel trilogy. Troy Alders, Lucasfilm art director said this of Yoda’s appearance:
“Well, Yoda is not that much younger — around 700 years old instead of about 900. But we thought that with it being hundreds of years earlier, he would definitely have a different outfit, maybe even more than one. His age, as far as the way that his hair and face look, is maybe just slightly younger, but fairly close to his look in ‘Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. This mission outfit, with just tonal markings on the robe, are inspired by the Jedi Temple architectural details”.
The Master Yoda Difference-
While there isn’t a huge difference with the first outfit, the next one is very different from what we are used to seeing Jedi wear:
This outfit reflects the Golden Age of the Jedi that ‘The High Republic’ takes place in. What’s interesting is that despite being 200 years younger, Yoda is still sporting his cane here. At what point does age start kicking in for his kind?
When Will We See Young Yoda?
So, when can we expect to see a younger Yoda? Well, Daniel José has a comic which will be debuting in 2021 and will include this version of the character.
He will still be a teacher but he’s likely to be travelling the galaxy a bit more instead of sitting on his chair in the Jedi Council chambers. We can’t wait to see what the High Republic Era has in store for us and have our fingers and toes crossed for a movie based on this time in the Star Wars Universe.
