I recently enjoyed a wonderful honeymoon in Orlando, and as it is the most visited destination in the United States, I wanted to share how my husband and I were able to relax and adventure during the coronavirus.
The coronavirus has really put a damper on just about everything this year. My husband and I had plans to get married in Hawaii and enjoy a romantic island honeymoon, however, like many other couples our plans were changed due to the ongoing pandemic. Thankfully we were able to make last minute changes and enjoy a wedding and honeymoon in our local city of Orlando!
I wanted to give other couples a look into how we made our honeymoon work during these unprecedented times. In other words, you CAN still have an unforgettable honeymoon. Here is how we visited all three major Orlando attractions, Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort, and Seaworld, for an amazing honeymoon!
To start off our honeymoon we stayed at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. I cannot recommend this resort enough for honeymooners, it’s relaxed upscale atmosphere really set the tone for the rest of our vacation.
After the wedding, all we wanted to do was rest and relax by the pool, thats why we decided on the Yacht Club for our stay. Stormalong Bay is the featured pool at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, and it did not disappoint. Here is Disney’s official description for Stormalong Bay:
Splash it up at this 750,000-gallon, beachside wonderland that offers 3 acres of aquatic fun.
Immerse yourself in an expansive sand-bottomed pool or a lazy circular river. Explore a life-size shipwreck replica. Slide down one of the highest hotel waterslides at Walt Disney World Resort. Then, feel your cares melt away as you soak up the sun’s golden rays atop an elevated tanning deck, or simply escape to one of 3 whirlpool spas.
Children can wade into the main pool from the gently sloping, sandy beach and cool off in the Shipwreck Pool—complete with a miniature waterslide!
Boasting an impressive complex of pools that range from swirling to placid or open to secluded, every member of your family can find a place to cool off and have some fun at Stormalong Bay.
We opted to grab some take away pizza from the Pizza Window at Disney’s Boardwalk, which is just a short walk from Stormalong Bay Pool. We were able to take our lunch back to our pool chairs (which are fairly luxurious) for a laid back meal.
Since the resorts are not very busy due to the virus we had the pool completely to ourselves. The water slide, the lazy river, and the hot tubs were empty, and we enjoyed every moment of it! And don’t worry about masks in the pool or at your pool chairs, social distancing is easy at this expansive pool and the staff will explain all the health regulations as you enter. I believe this is a perfect spot for honeymooners at Disney!
SeaWorld’s Discovery Cove
If you are looking for an all-inclusive experience for your honeymoon be sure to check out Discovery Cove. We spent a full day here and it was the highlight of our honeymoon. It truly transports you to a tropical paradise!
Here is the official description of Discovery Cove:
Discovery Cove® is a unique reservations-only, interactive marine life park.Located adjacent to SeaWorld® and Aquatica® in Orlando, the park offers guests the ultimate all-inclusive experience through up-close encounters with dolphins and other exotic sea life. Guests are able to participate in the park’s signature 30-minute dolphin interaction, snorkel with tropical fish and rays in The Grand Reef®, wade beside marmosets and river otters in the Freshwater Oasis®, hand-feed exotic birds in the free flight Explorer’s Aviary™, relax in the large resort pool and swim along the tropical river. Many amenities like freshly prepared meals and drinks, snorkels and sunscreen, are included. Through up-close animal encounters and educational opportunities, guests leave with a renewed connection with the world around them and an awareness of how to help protect animals in the wild
Discovery Cove is an all day adventure that includes your food and drink. We did have an upgraded drink package and also added the dolphin interaction, both of which I would highly recommend for your honeymoon adventure. The entire day is so fully immersive you will forget you are in Orlando!
Universal Orlando Resort
For the majority of our honeymoon, we stayed at Universal Orlando Resort’s Royal Pacific Hotel.
The Resort is incredibly beautiful and romantic with its South Sea’s theme. It is also extremely convenient to Universal CityWalk, Islands of Adventure, and Universal Studios, which are all a quick ten minute walk away. There are SO many restaurants perfect for couples at CityWalk and we really enjoyed the variety. Both Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios were both empty when we visited on a Friday and we rode every attraction we wanted with no wait.
If you are looking for variety, adventure, and excitement on your honeymoon staying at Universal really delivers all of that in a laid back environment. The enhanced safety procedures for the parks and every ride at Universal really helped us feel safe during our visit. No hassle, no stress, just fun!
These are just a few of the highlights from my experience, I hope they can help inspire your honeymoon! As you can see there are a variety of entertainment offerings to keep your honeymoon fun filled and relaxing while visiting Orlando’s largest attractions!
