The Walt Disney Company is celebrating Hispanic Heritage all month long! The company is delving into Hispanic culture, speaking with Hispanic Cast Members, and showcasing how you can celebrate Hispanic Heritage at home.
Disney is recognizing Hispanic culture across all of their parks. At the Walt Disney World Resort, the legendary Mariachi Cobre fills the air with traditional Hispanic folk music. With live daily performances at EPCOT’s America Gardens Theater, there are plenty of opportunities to stop and embrace their traditional music. Hailing from Jalisco, Mexico, Mariachi Cobre have been performing at the Walt Disney Resort for 38 years!
Celebrating Hispanic Cast Members-
Disney Parks Blog has also been featuring Hispanic Cast Members throughout the parks. These Cast Members are showcasing their stories, cultures, and what they bring to the new generation, the Latinx community. Disney Store Manager, Julie Vargas shares:
“A favorite memory was helping find guests the doll of Elena of Avalor, a Disney Princess hailing from a fairytale kingdom inspired by our diverse Latin culture and folklore.”
Another Cast Member, Susana Tubert, and her team are responsible for bringing Latin culture to the parks through live entertainment and shows. Hailing from Argentina, Susana is the Creative Director for Disney Parks Live Entertainment. She and her team are responsible for bringing the Latin traditions of Christmas to Disney California Adventure Park, with the annual celebration of ¡Viva Navidad! Susan had this to see about her experiences in her field:
“With each new challenge, we grow closer to the artist and individual we are meant to be.”
How You Can Celebrate Hispanic Heritage at Home-
Even The Walt Disney Company’s Supplier Diversity team is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. One of their suppliers being Badia Spices. This name might not ring a bell initially, but we’re willing to be that most of you have tried Badia Spices before. Jose Badia of Cuba started what would become a multi-million family business in 1967. Since, Jose has had the opportunity to bring his unique blend of spices to Disney Parks, specifically Disney’s Animal Kingdom. At Flame Tree Barbecue, one of Badia’s signature rubs is used on many menu items there. They even work with Disney Chefs to bring more flavor and culture to signature Disney dishes. Families all over the world can add that same flavor and culture to dishes at home by ordering directly from Badia!
If you are of Hispanic descent or just want to learn more about how the culture is weaved throughout the Disney tapestry, be sure to follow along with Disney Parks Blog for more features and information.
