We never saw the animals fight but once we ran over some sort of piping that wasn’t supposed to be in the road and our cast member had to report it over her Wallis talkie. She was really flustered and luckily the safari vehicle still drove with no issues. Interesting to say the least.

November 2019 similar encounter except rhinos were engaged in sexual intercourse right in front of our bus. We waited & watched until a park truck arrived & Persuaded the lovers to “get a room”. Also another rhino was watching with no shame standing close by. I never witnessed such an encounter. It was big real big.

Appreciate the cast member whose voice remained calm and amused and gave the good advice to stay seated seconds before the rhinos bumped the vehicle.

we stop for animals all the time esp if its food time you can get amazing views and the animals seem to be use to the trucks enough… never seen an animal get so close though the rhinos seem to think they own the joint!

I remember back when we had the old “Catch the poachers!” storyline, the radio was nagging our bus to hurry up, but one ostrich was indignantly taking its time, casually jogging ahead of us, and wouldn’t give right of way…

i am assuming one of the many reasons it was removed…

One time very early in the morning the wildebeest were stampeding across the Savannah. It was sending everyone into a frenzy including the Thompson’s gazelle’s! They were pronging across the Savannah and it was the cutest thing our driver was freaking out because she’d never seen it before and she was so excited!

Sometime around 2011 I was there with pre-teen cheerleaders that I coached. The rhinos were fighting while running and one of them slammed into the jeep right in front of us and then bumped our jeep. The guide was desperately trying to keep our kiddos from screaming so the rhinos would move on. It was cool and scary and funny all at the same time.

Hi, my name is Dale Morison, and I lived in and around the Tampa area of Florida for roughly about 25 years or so, starting in November of 1994, til December of last year. In that time I spent A Lot of years working in the Florida theme park industry. Did 2 tours of duty at Disney parks, one from 4/2005 – 11/2006, at Animal Kingdom, and it was my favorite of the two job experiences I has as a cast member, because I enjoyed being surrounded by the animals, even though I wasn’t working directly with them, I was mostly ride ops., at that time, but I’m something of an animal trivia nerd, and it gave me a chance to put that to good use, among other things, my attractions co-workers helped make it a pleasure as well. Anyway although I never actually worked at Kilimanjaro, it was one of my favorite rides there, because of exactly what the filmer of this clip wrote to accompany it, live animals are unpredictable, so there’s always the potential for an altercation like that to take place, and I never actually saw any incidents like that during any of my many rides with them. So much so was I aware of it’s potential for happening, having watched far too many nature and animal programs on TV, for my own good, that several times I took it upon myself to ask the drivers if they’d ever dealt with an animal trying to charge the vehicle, and they very often said yes, and then proceeded to regale me with a fitting brief anecdote.

Obviously I cannot say for certain that it was what those 2 rhinos were doing, however that is what rhinos do as foreplay.

One time in the early 2000s I saw 2 rhinos square off with each other. They both snorted kicked up dirt in the air with one foot and bowed. They looked like they were going to have a wild west shootout. They ran at each other with such force I had no idea they could go that fast being so large. When they hit each other you could hear the loud thunderous echo of it boom in your ears like no other sound ive heard since. The driver of our ride got scared and drove off so fast. It was amazing how the 2 animals didn’t kill each other colliding into each other with such force.

I was on the same ride in the front of the truck. It was very cool.

Rhino decided to take a nap right on the track. So we couldn’t just go around him. While stopped other animals came up to the Jeep and a giraffe stuck her head inside looking for food. I don’t remember how long we were stuck but we has to wait for some handlers to come persuade the rhino to move lol. This I believe was the year it opened too.

There is a set path the jeeps take but there is no track hence drivers… this is not the jungle cruise also the rhinos and giraffes are nowhere near each other are you sure you were at a dak and not another safari??? Some are on tracks! Its been the same ride they just changed the poacher chase to conservation and night safaris!

In June of 2018 there was an announcement shortly before boarding about a delay because the animals were being animals, basically. Well apparently two elephants still had some things to work out because as we rode through one charged another, and driver never changed his tone as he quickly rolled out. I was able to get about ten seconds of video. We were actually there last Wednesday and a lady got excited and yelled for the driver to back up so she could see a rhinoceros. Before the driver could even say “Ma’am…” I was internally screaming NO!
