Learn to Paint With a Disney Imagineer

Kevin Rafferty — who works on the communications team for Walt Disney Imagineering — recently shared an article and video tutorial on how to draw an adventureland-inspired treehouse. What could be better than not only learning a skill from a true Disney Imagineer, but also getting a free souvenir that you can showcase in your home — sign me up!
The video is described by Disney in the following way:
“Hosted by Imagineer Jeremy Costello, the tutorial will show you and your family how to come away with a whimsical piece of art. The drawing features a number of tropical elements including thatch huts, exotic plants and birds, and more.”

Meet Walt Disney Imagineer — Jeremy Costello

For a huge Disney fan like me, this tutorial is exciting from start to finish. As Jeremy introduces the project, it feels as though he’s talking directly to you and it definitely stirs up a sense of Disney excitement to be learning from one of the “greats” at Disney designs!

Learn to Draw an Adventureland-Inspired Treehouse

He starts out by laying out each of the tools you’ll need to work on your art piece and offers variations in case you don’t have watercolor paints or would prefer a different way of coloring it in. From the beginning of the video and all the way to the end, Jeremy slowly and intentionally walks the viewers through each small step in the drawing and coloring process. I love how he makes each person watching feel like an artist — appreciating how each picture will end up looking different.

Some of my personal favorite magic moments that they’ve shared have been those that teach me something at the hands of one of the many talented cast members working on property. Whether it’s a lesson on some of the amazing history of the parks at Disneyland or Walt Disney World or a new skill — these articles and videos are always incredibly entertaining. They definitely achieve their goal of making Disney magic accessible everywhere.
