Heads up, Disney fans! The next time you visit Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World Resort, chances are you’ll see some magical new face masks being worn by over 100,000 Disney Cast Members across the U.S.
The enforced use of face masks for Disney Guests and Cast Members alike is part of Disney Parks and Resorts’ enhanced approach to health and safety. So since Disneyland and Disney World began their phased reopenings with Downtown Disney and Disney Springs, the Cast Members have all been wearing appropriate face coverings.
Disney Cast Members are the magic makers of the Disney Parks and Resorts. So why shouldn’t their face masks reflect all of the pixie dust that they create for Guests?
Today, Disney has shared a behind-the-scenes look at the new face coverings that Disney Cast Members will be wearing. These face masks have beautiful hidden Mickeys and pixie dust, but what makes them magical is that they were designed by Cast Members, for Cast Members.
As you can see in the image above, these face masks are stunning. Disney shared some information about the design: “Drawing inspiration from classic Disney characters, films and television shows, the pattern unifies what every dreamer and cast member have in common – joy, magic, and a little pixie dust. They sparkle with pixie dust and Mickey constellations, recalling that the second star to the right shines in the dreamy night and reminds us to keep wishing upon that evening star.”
We don’t know about you, but we’re pretty jealous of the Cast Members who get to wear these adorable new face masks! We wouldn’t be surprised if Guests asked Cast Members if they could purchase them at World of Disney in the future. They are just that beautiful, and they definitely fit with the Disney theme.
Below is an excerpt from the Disney Parks Blog post that shares some details about the new face coverings.
Designed in partnership across the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World costuming teams – Disney Parks Live Entertainment, Worldwide Safety Services and Global Applied Technology – these face coverings were developed remotely through a bi-coastal effort between cast members at both resorts.
“Over the past several months, we’ve spent significant time and brainpower to provide our cast members with face coverings that are both functional and comfortable, and I’m proud of the incredible results,” said Dr. Pamela Hymel, Disney Parks Chief Medical Officer. “They fit well, feel great and can last for more than 50 washes.”
Drawing from their own experience, the project stemmed from a need for a more unified and breathable face covering. With the full support of their leaders at Disney, this group seized the opportunity to create the unique, reusable face covering, specifically made for cast members at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort.
“The unified design speaks to the fact that we are still one unified Cast, one Disney ‘world,’” shared Yonit Olshan, Costume Designer, Disneyland Resort Costuming. “As a creative team, we gained so much from each other’s experience and exposure to different types of problems and projects.”
The new Disney Cast Member face masks are available in both pleated and contoured styles as well as several sizes. So no matter each CM’s preference or comfort level, there is a face covering for everyone. Disney has emphasized that the design focuses on comfort and function. We know how important it is to wear a face mask that is comfortable and functional — especially in these summer months and when visiting popular locations like Disney property — so it is great to know that Disney Cast Members can wear such creative and happy masks, too.
The next time you visit Disneyland Resort property (note that Downtown Disney has reopened!) or any of the reopened theme parks or areas on Walt Disney World Resort property, keep in mind that the magical face masks you see Cast Members wearing were designed with love and pixie dust.
