Disney Cruise Line will not have any sailings until after Halloween.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the ocean-fairing group Cruise Lines International Association announced it will extend the halting of sailings until at least October 31, 2020. The suspension was originally set for September 15.
Cruise Lines International Association consists of Disney Cruise Line as well as Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line, Carnival Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, Celebrity, Princess, and others.
“We believe it is prudent at this time to voluntarily extend the suspension of U.S. ocean-going cruise operations,” reads the CLIA statement. “This is a difficult decision as we recognize the crushing impact that this pandemic has had on our community and every other industry. However, we believe this proactive action further demonstrates the cruise industry’s commitment to public health and willingness to voluntarily suspend operations in the interest of public health and safety.”
The Sentinel stated that cruise lines have begun informing passengers and travel agencies about this news. However, as of the original publication of this article, Disney Cruise Line has not updated the information on its website, still informing would-be passengers:
“In line with this direction and with the well-being of our Guests and team members our top priority, Disney Cruise Line has suspended all new departures of the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wonder through Wednesday, September 30. As previously announced, Disney Cruise Line has already suspended Disney Magic sailings through October 2, 2020.”
We will update this article as soon as new information comes to light. But the extended suspension through Halloween would mean that Disney’s Halloween-themed “Halloween on the High Seas” cruises are among the newly impacted sailings.
Once confirmed by Disney Cruise Line, it will be the latest Halloween event Disney Parks has canceled this year, including Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World.
But while Castaway Cay sits empty and Port Canaveral goes quite amid the lack of Guests, Disney Cruise Line has been hard at work cooperating with the CDC to get its crew home.
