I am all for safety in this time, but the numbers you throw out are out of context, and should properly be represented in context. 15k in one day, was a backlog of tests, and was amongst 170k tests. Im not saying there isnt an inxrease, but your wording tries to attribute the increase to disney. These tests were before disney, and if you do some research into the interviews of the infexted, you will find that they are being properly attributed to localized sources, namely bars and restaurants. I just ask that you please dont quote numbers without context, please do the digging for everyones benefit.

I didn’t read this as if the cases were attributed to Disney at all. I would hope anyone who’s planning to go to the theme parks has been paying attention to the numbers, regardless of them being a slight backlog. I mean, 9% positive is quite a lot, and people should be aware that high numbers can mean higher chance of infection, because not everyone with Covid presents a fever, so they would still be allowed inside the parks.

Data collected from state run COVID 19 websites. The top 8 states (as of July 16 at 8:00 a.m. EST). New York and California alone account for more cases (764,907) than Florida, Texas and Arizona (728,027) combined. Toss in New Jersey and Illinois with NY and Cali (1,100,340) and those FOUR states account for 33.5% of all COVID in the USA (3.5 million cases as of July 16th). Deaths – NY 32,115; NJ – 15634; IL – 7435; CA – 7368; FL – 4520; TX – 3582; GA – 3030; AZ – 2442. Let’s separate the hype and hysteria barrage from the media. If Florida (302,000) confirmed 10,000 new cases a day for the next 28 days it would still trail NY and NJ, (587,000) as the confirmed case numbers in NY and NJ continue to grow, albeit at a slower rate. And although Gov. Cuomo claims NY has achieved a lower RATE OF SPREAD, New York state still has the highest rate of COVID-19 cases in the USA. Another interesting point, as COVID 19 is politicized at every opportunity (it’s a Disney site, I’d rather leave politics out of it but it needs to be pointed out) New York-New Jersey -California and Illinois have Democrat governors, and the highest rates of infection and deaths. Florida-Texas-Arizona and Georgia have Republican governors, are squarely in the cross hairs of the media, but have overall lower rate of infections and have a death rate 78% less! Food for thought, don’t take my word for it (or the media’s), do your own research.

Thank you for the suggestion to do my own research. Because a month later, something very different has emerged. The states that have stricter guidelines (masks, keeping certain businesses closed, prohibiting gatherings, etc.) are no longer the top in new COVID cases. And I don’t want to be political, but since you brought it up, 4 out of 5 states with the highest number of new cases by population are Republican states that eschew restrictions. Louisianna, Arizona, and Florida are at the top of the number of cases per population with only New York being a Democrat state in the top 5. So, yeah… you might want to come up with a different explanation for things.

However, the numbers are out of wack since the reports were indicating 98 percent were positive when in fact it was in the 9 percent range which is a huge difference. We can’t shut the state down. This virus will run its course. 98 to 99 percent of people who do get it recover with no lingering complications. We need to quit watching the media and get on with our lives. My niece was just at Disney and her pictures showed that there was hardly anyone there. I have never seen it that empty.

  2. I am convinced that theme parks must be open. The death rate from the virus is very low in the USA. In fact, more people die from the flu each year than from this. If the parks reopened with all the security measures requested by the government and the people are responsible and take care of themselves, I don’t see why they should close again.

      Keep the parks open!

    2. USA is now leading the world in new cases and in death Florida is now number 4 of most case and death in the world and this is far worse than the flu

I am praying the meet and greets will come back soon. I’m really missing the characters.

I dont believe those numbers are correct. I think CDC are making these numbers up. They work for the democrates who want to see the economy and bussiness to fall before the November elections. They are destroying everything that makes us happy. And the theme parks are part of our happiness in a world that has gone crazy. Keep the parks opened.

  3. Becky

I’m an annual pass holder at Universal and I’ve been to the parks 2 times. I actually feel safer going to the theme parks than my local grocery store.

    1. Gregory Barbaran

Agreed! I was there too and it was totally safe. Amazing how people can post without any knowledge at all.

  4. Dawn Clark

I believe that the parks should be closed until our numbers come down. They won’t open Bars and Movie theaters but they will open parks. You have more people from all over sharing their germs. It’s not right I live in Florida and don’t want anymore people to die. Not fair to us this is our HOME state.

Bars and movie theatres cant provide the safety measures and social distancing the parks can. Also, most of the parks are outdoors and at limited capacity and mandatory mask wearing so that point doesnt fly. Also, Bars and movie theatres are indoors and use recycled A.C to pump thru the building meaning everyone is breathing recycled air. Furthermore Floridians wont wear masks to help the situation because they need someone to tell them to, and whats with the younger people holding “Covid parties”? Thats workin out well isnt it? The safest places in Florida right now are the parks hands down

      1. Daniel Rosenthal

covid is a lie! There is no such thing. I’ve not wore a mask and I don’t social distance and I don’t even wash my hands and I haven’t gotten sick. I’ve randomly made out with strangers and smoked weed with tons of people and still haven’t been sick in over 8 years. Its a big lie. Flu kills 650,000 people a year car accidents 1.5 million they are just blaming those deaths on a fake disease. You are all sheep.

We went to Universal Orlando 2 weeks ago from Miami- Dade. I went to Costco today. I did not see the difference. Social distancing on the lines, and depending on the car capacity of each ride, it would be one group per car. In a ride like Juraissac, one group in the front row and one group in the back row. Theatric shows, every other row was skipped as well as skipping 4 seats per row to distance groups. At theme parks your mostly outside, while your inside in Costco. Theme park rides had social distance markers posted on the ground of the line. Masks were required at all times, except for water rides and the 6 to 7 locations where masks could be removed. Temperature was checkwd at parking lot. We were told by attendees to out masks on at the Harry Potter train ride. We thought, why not. It’s just us. But the attendee politely reminded us that each cabin was was constantly used the entire day.
I’m not saying it’s a guaranteed safe area but I will say it’s not worse then going to Costco.

The numbers being reported are fake. Reporting all positives and no negatives. This is under investigation. Also one person went 20 times to see if she still had it and this was counted as 20 positive cases. Go have fun at Disney!

We are at sea world this week and they are very strict about face masks and social distance . The parks are as safe as going to stores

Our family purchased a Universal vacation package back in December for our son’s birthday at the end of July. We were still planning on going until Florida cases started to spike in June. That’s when we, very sadly, decided to cancel our trip as a precaution. It made us very sad, but we felt it simply wasn’t worth the risk at this time. Until the entire country takes this seriously, we’ll continue to have these high numbers of infected people.

My opinion below, fact is COVID is going up, rapidly. It could be because young people are being irresponsible and catching it, spreading it.
I’ve seen people of all ages with no masks on or wearing them wrong in public places. Is it just a coincidence that Universal and WDW opened and neighborhood zoo’s, aquariums and parks opened and COVID in Florida is at an all time high? As much as I HATE quarantine and shutting down all public places with delivery and curbside pick up only, it may be the only way to literally survive.
As an optimist though, we’ve made our park reservations hoping COVID goes down.

  10. Debbie

    Definitely not!

The same number of people will be infected with Covid-19 whether you wear a mask or not, whether you stand 6 ft apart or 12 ft apart, whether you hide under your bed or go to an amusement park. The virus will continue until there is enough immunity to stop it.

Yeah we got it the first 2 times, no need to post a 3rd time.

How about i ask you this are the parks being knocked over tomorrow??? No! Then why risk it?

  14. My family and I are planning a visit to a theme park in Florida. Hope everything goes well.
