VIDEO: Virtual Ride of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril

in Disneyland Paris

Temple of Peril

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril has been thrilling fans of Disneyland Paris since it first opened way back in 1993. Despite seeing a few changes over the years, (notably the 2014 refurbishment) the ride has remained largely the same.

Despite the music playing over the ride in the video, one of the biggest gripes that many fans have had with the attraction over the years is that it doesn’t feel enough like it is Indiana Jones! Every time I have been on it you can’t even hear any Indiana Jones music in the queue. That being said, this is a fantastic attraction with a pretty intense inversion.

In fact, Indiana Jones and the Tempil of Peril was the first Disney Park attraction to ever include an inversion, and it remains the ride with the largest height requirement in any Disney theme park worldwide. It is also the first ride to be based on Indiana Jones at a Disney theme park, with Indiana Jones Adventure following in 1995 at Disneyland (we’re excluding the stunt show at Hollywood Studios given it isn’t a ride). The attraction looks decidedly tame from the outside but the hidden loop really is one of the best in any Disney park.

Better yet, there have been times in the history of the attraction that the ride was programmed to go backwards, creating a completely new experience. As someone who has been lucky enough to experience the attraction going in both directions, it really does feel like two different attractions.

Another little known fact is that the layout of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril was used as a basis for the Raging Spirits coaster at Tokyo DisneySea!

With another Indiana Jones movie potentially in the works, it would be good to see Disney do more with the franchise in the theme parks. In particular, it would be awesome to see Walt Disney World get a themed Indiana Jones land in addition to the existing Epic Stunt Spectacular at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
