As D23 mentions, “If you count yourself among those Disney fashionistas, you need to check out Loungefly’s newest (and first!) clothing collection: Stitch Shoppe.” These wearable options will be perfect for dressing up, or layering with a denim jacket and converses and traipse through a Disney Park!

The Loungefly Stitch Shoppe

Loungefly is already a household name among Disney fans, and with the addition of a high-end clothing line, it will be sure to please clotheshorses of all kinds. The new sartorial merchandise collection will offer a limited edition of 600 pieces per style, which serves as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to collect the items before they are sold out. Every new release clothing or accessory item will also be shipped with a collectible enameled Loungefly pin on the hangtag of the Loungefly Stitch Shoppe garment.

D23 spoke with the Vice President and creative superfan Liz DeSilva on how Loungefly became the fairy godmother of this clothing collection. DeSilva mentions that she was in charge of fash fashion t-shirts with Disney, and noticed there was a fresh, young audience looking for a vintage-inspired line. Her ideas for the Loungefly Stitch Shoppe line became a partnership with Loungefly and Funko, because they are such collectible lines (we swoon over the mini backpack debuts).

The high-quality fabric DeSilva wanted took over eight months to source as they worked on designs to compliment body shapes and sizes as well as to make everything comfortable.  “For example,” DeSilva says, “I would pay a lot for a dress and the zipper closure would jam. For the Stitch Shoppe Line, we have amazing quality zippers that you can pull up yourself and they don’t snag. I know it’s very dorky to care so much about a zipper, but the quality of our materials is amazing.”

Creating Disney Icons in the Stitch Shoppe

Minnie and Mickey are the iconic Disney characters, so including them in the initial launch was a no brainer. Minnie’s effortless ability to become a fashion plate was the inspiration behind the new blue dress and red hat look. When dealing with the Disney Princesses, vintage inspiration was taken from the Chanel and Versace archives, and transposed with Disney items like Cinderella’s Mice measuring tapes and ribbons. DeSilva wanted to have character inspirations that felt truly vintage.

When considering colors, mood boards were created with various inspirations. Snow White’s primary colors don’t always match Ariel’s teals, so DeSilva muted the Princesses into a cohesive palette to draw from. This way, the entire initial Loungefly Stitch Shoppe collection appears to coordinate. Disneybounders will feel like they can harmonize their vestments when stepping out in vintage style.

The Details

All of the clothing in the new Stitch Shoppe is described to be “universally flattering.” DeSilva explains that this was of utmost importance as modern humans are busy, bendy beings that require comfort. When she designed the line, she made it very clear from the start that, ” the most important thing was that this was flattering for everybody, that everybody felt good in it.” Her models and testers acted like they were driving, stretching, sitting, pulling. DeSilva promises to continue to try and make things more flattering, more comfortable, and listen to their fans.

When you’re purchasing an item from the Loungefly Stitch Shop, check out the tiny details. Along with the collector’s edition pins, there’s more that was put into the designs. On the mini skirt, on the balloon, when the string of the balloon goes around the back of the skirt, it actually loops into a little heart on the back that you can’t see from the front or any of the sketches. Likewise, the Cinderella dress comes with a blue belt—but if you reverse it, it’s the measuring tape that the mice use to make the dress.
