Many Star Wars fans were thrilled to hear that Rosario Dawson will take beloved character Ahsoka Tano into the world of live-action in season two of Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian. However, a tweet from Star Wars Direct claims that Dawson’s role in the Star Wars universe will expand far beyond that, as she’s allegedly signed a multi-show contract.

This news is absolutely huge. It indicates that Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice (former Jedi padawan, rather) will star in much more than just The Mandalorian. Could she appear in the untitled Cassian Andor series? Perhaps even more excitingly, this announcement opens the door for Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano to reunite with Obi Wan Kenobi, reprised once again by prequels veteran Ewan McGregor in the upcoming spin-off show.

Though the tweet only mentions shows, could this also mean the appearance of Ahsoka in future live-action movies? We certainly hope so! The character was first introduced in The Clone Wars animated show, and reappeared after a long hiatus in Star Wars Rebels. While we’re super excited to see her interact with Baby Yoda in season two of The Mandalorian, (particularly if Taika Waititi and Deborah Chow return to direct), the prospect of seeing Ahsoka reunite with Obi Wan in a post Order 66 world is too tantalizing to ignore.

While we’re sad that voice of Ahsoka Ashley Eckstein won’t be involved, Rosario Dawson’s track record of past work certainly sets her up as an excellent replacement for a live-action adaptation. After her role in the Dave Filoni led animated shows Star Wars Rebels and The Clone Wars, fans have developed a real affection for Ahsoka, and the character has taken on a life of her own alongside veterans like Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader, Yoda, and Obi Wan Kenobi himself.

The announcement hasn’t sat well with some fans, however, who have angrily tweeted back that Dawson shouldn’t even be cast as Ahsoka, citing recent allegations of transphobia. For now, we’ll have to wait and see how that plays out.

What do you think about Rosario Dawson’s casting as Ahsoka Tano? Is she the right actress for the character? Are you excited to see her meet Baby Yoda and The Mandalorian in season two? Or do you find her casting problematic? Let us know in the comments below.
