With so many passengers canceling their Disney Cruise Line vacations due to coronavirus concerns and government recommendations, Disney is offering stateroom upgrades on embarkation day.
Disney Cruise Line Blog reports that the cruise line has been contacting travel agents and Authorized Disney Vacation Planners regarding inquiries from passengers wanting to upgrade their staterooms. As cruise ships are becoming less and less full due to cancellations, more staterooms are becoming available. With this in mind, many soon-to-be Disney Cruise passengers are wanting to upgrade to a better room type.
But Disney reportedly says that if passengers want a stateroom upgrade, they are going to have to wait until embarkation day when they check-in for their cruise vacation at the port they are departing from. For imminent sailings, Disney Cruise Line is unable to accommodate upgrades over the phone, since they are receiving such a high volume of calls at this time.
So for example, if you have a cruise coming up and you are sailing on the Disney Dream from Port Canaveral, you are going to have to wait until you arrive at Port Canaveral and check-in for your cruise at the port to ask about an upgrade. When checking in, you can ask if there are any stateroom upgrades available at that time. Disney also wants passengers to keep in mind that all upgrades will be handled on a first come, first serve basis. But rest assured — the Disney Magic was recently reported to be only 80% full, and there were plenty of upgrades available on embarkation day, reports one passenger to Disney Cruise Line Blog.
