Marvel star, Chris Evans, who portrays Captain America in the hit Avengers films, has become the latest celebrity to record a video reading a children’s book for kids whose schools are currently closed amid sweeping national health concerns.
Evans selected “If You Give a Dog a Donut,” written by Laura Numeroff and illustrated by Felicia Bond. This book is part of the famous series started by the classic title, “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.”
In his Instagram caption, Evans brought awareness to the lifestyle issues some American children are now experiencing due to school closures. He stated, “THIRTY MILLION CHILDREN rely on school for food. Responding to the needs of kids during these school closures, @savethechildren and @nokidhungry have a new fund @SAVEWITHSTORIES to support food banks, and mobile meal trucks, and community feeding programs…”
Evans is just one of many celebrities who are supporting various charities, including Save With Stories, by reading kids’ books from their own homes on social media right now. Other Disney stars also read children’s books on the Save With Stories page.
Former Disney Channel star, Hilary Duff, also contributed to the Save With Stories Instagram page. Duff selected “The Bossier Baby” by Marla Frazee.
Although Evans doesn’t currently have any Disney films in the works, he is currently filming an Apple+ series titled Defending Jacob and has two rumored movie roles in pre-production once film studios resume work.
Duff is still expected to appear in the Disney+ Lizzie McGuire reboot, which has currently been shelved due to subject matter concerns. There are rumors that the series may be moved to Hulu, but Disney executives have not made an official announcement yet.
Until filming for their upcoming projects is able to start again, both celebrities seem to be doing their part to encourage social distancing and bring awareness to those who are most vulnerable right now.
