88-year-old Disney Legend and Imagineer Bob Gurr has updated his Instagram fans about what he’s doing to stay safe during Los Angeles County’s shelter in place order. Gurr, who is among the elderly population most at risk for contracting the current pandemic, is staying as busy and active (but safe!) as possible.
Gurr assured his followers, “I have food for many weeks. My local YMCA Gym has drive-thru free veggies for seniors. The ladies there took my photo as I received my free bag. I cook two or three hot meals every day. But before dinner, I celebrate each sunset with a wonderful libation in my very own 1955 Disneyland Mr. Toad Car, “Winky”.” The photo he shared features “Winky” and a smiling Gurr wearing a 101 Dalmations sweatshirt.
The famous Imagineer continued, “Every night I get to travel anywhere in the World [sic] I would like to visit. How? With my home Xplane flight simulator. Some nights I’m in Zermatt circling the real Matterhorn in my big helicopter and just the other night I buzzed through the Las Vegas Strip in my cute little chopper.”
Gurr’s love of unique vehicles clearly hasn’t waned with time. He is credited with designing many of Disneyland’s most iconic vehicles, including the Autopia cars, Haunted Mansion Doom Buggies, the Disneyland Monorail, and, perhaps most famously, the Matterhorn Bobsleds. In 2004, Gurr was officially named a Disney Legend.

Gurr’s Instagram post concluded with details about his active lifestyle, telling fans, “Anytime the weather’s great, I head out for a 12-mile bike ride – yeah, RED bike, matches my red shoes. Sure hope all of you are having as much quarantine fun time as I am!”
