As Ewan McGregor and Disney+ continue to make progress on the highly-anticipated Star Wars series centered around fan-favorite Obi-Wan Kenobi, more information is slowly coming to light. The latest news: a new working title for the series.

According to productionweekly.com, the working title for the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series is PILGRIM.

Thoughts of John Wayne immediately come to mind hearing this title. Especially considering the location, Tatooine, and the concerns that the Kenobi series was appearing too much like Jon Favreau’s now-established Star Wars western, The Mandalorian. But this new title make sense beyond that angle.

Despite being in solitude, Obi-Wan Kenobi will be shown as a pilgrim in his own right. He will be disguised as almost a hermiting monk while Jedi are hunted and killed across the Galaxy, and we will hopefully see him going on his own actual spiritual pilgrimage to complete the training he needs to communicate with force ghosts like Qui-Gon Jin and become one himself.

“We start shooting at the very beginning of next year, they’re in pre-production from this summer, there are scripts that I’ve read that are really good, they’re continuing to write on them to make them even better, and we start very early next year,” McGregor revealed on Good Morning America. “And I’m excited about it. I think the last one I shot was in 2003, so it’s been a while. It’ll just be there, I think. Also, I’m reminding myself by watching their new films and The Mandalorian and stuff, I really enjoyed. I keep myself as current as I can with the Lucasfilm world. I don’t think it will take two minutes; I’ll put the cloak back on and I’ll be there, I think.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi has made appearances in other Star Wars productions since the conclusion of the prequel trilogy, including the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. But this series will be the first time Ewan McGregor plays the role since Revenge of the Sith. The show will expand on the timeline gap between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope previously explored by Star Wars Rebels, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Solo: A Star Wars Story. There is still no confirmation of how Luke Skywalker or Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader will play a role in the story.

Please note that PILGRIM is merely the working title of the Kenobi series as of now. There is plenty of time between now and the start of filming for that name to change. Still, it is a significant insight into the direction Lucasfilm and Disney+ might be looking to go with this prequel series.
