Credit: DisneyHeads up, Disney World travelers! The centerpiece of the Walt Disney World Resort is getting a paint job. News just broke that Cinderella Castle is getting a permanent makeover this summer. Here’s what we know so far.
Cinderella Castle gets a permanent makeover
Disney shared on Monday that Cinderella Castle is getting a makeover in honor of this year’s 70th anniversary of the Walt Disney animated classic Cinderella, the film that the castle was based on. From the concept art that Disney shared online, we can tell that the castle will be a lot more magical than ever before. The new paint job on the castle will include gold detailing that looks like it will glimmer in the sun. If there was ever a way to make Cinderella Castle even more eye-catching than it already is, it’s with gold details all throughout it!
Disney says that Cinderella’s “namesake castle at the heart of Walt Disney World Resort will soon be made over with bold, shimmering and regal enhancements.”
Take a look at a side-by-side comparison of the castle now vs. what it will look like after the work is complete. As you can tell, this makeover is a lot like the makeover on Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland that took place last year, when Disney made the castle colors a lot more vibrant and sparkly in the sun.
We know that visiting Disney World while the castle is under refurbishment isn’t ideal since it truly is the most iconic landmark in all of Disney property. So as soon as we know more information about when the refurbishment will start and how long it will last, we will update Inside the Magic so that you can either plan your trip around when the castle will be done, or so you can know what to expect if you are going on a vacation this summer. So far, we only know that the castle will be getting a makeover beginning sometime in the next few weeks and the work will continue into the summer months. But as soon as a big reveal is set, we will let you know!
Disney also confirmed that Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire and Happily Ever After will continue to run, so not to worry if you always look forward to those shows on your visit.
