Two hours into its big opening day, Disneyland’s Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance broke down.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • 8:oo a.m. PST: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance begins operations. First boarding groups are called.
  • ~9:50 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. PST: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Confirmed Shut Down
  • 10:50 a.m. PST: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance confirmed back up and running

Cast members informed us that we will know Rise of the Resistance is back up and running when the boarding group numbers change. All boarding groups were filled within the first minutes of the virtual queue opening.

There is still no word on why the ride went down, and we are left surprised after the ride’s flawless performances yesterday at Disneyland’s press event.

But in just under an hour, the boarding groups changed on the Disneyland app, signaling the Rise of the Resistance was operational once again. And as always, Cast Members were happy to assist guests with any questions they had in order to ensure everyone continued to have the most positive experience possible.

Same Story, Different Park

We’ve been here before. Back East at the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Rise of the Resistance broke down on its opening day. It was reported the ride needed to reboot its systems and that it would take over an hour to do so. It was also reported that Walt Disney World Cast Members compensated those already in line with re-entry passes.

No word yet on how Disneyland decided to handle the situation, but considering the ride was back up in less than an hour, it is doubtful any serious action was needed.

Guests in Backup Boarding Groups hit the hardest

While Disney states that Boarding Groups do not guarantee ride entry, those in backup boarding groups are hit the hardest with the”Rise of the Resistance” closure.

As it says on the app:

“Boarding groups 82 and above will only be called if all of the initial planned boarding groups have been called back and there is capacity for more riders.”

The longer the ride is down, the longer is it going to take for Disneyland to board the first 81 boarding groups which means that time will probably not be the friend of a lot of guests with boarding groups 82+. We can only hope that the ride remains operational and can be enjoyed by as many guests as possible.

Are you surprised Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance broke down so early? Let us know in the comments!
