“You’re going to Disneyland on an adventure!”

One good adventure deserves another. After 14-year-old Jake Manning began his new adventure with his new guardian Kerry Bremer, and his new family, ABC and Good Morning America gifted them with their very own Adventures by Disney trip.

Special-Ed teacher and mother of three Kerry Bremer took in her student, Jake, after his mother lost her battle with cancer.

“Jake was my student and I knew his mom was quite sick,” Bremer said. “I approached his mom and said ‘If you need a backup plan for Jake, then our family is happy to make him a part of our family.’ She told me ‘I’ll sleep better tonight than I have in a long time.’ She called him ‘our son.’ ‘our boy.'”

The family began spending weekends and holidays with Jake, and when his mother passed in November, they were ready to take him in. “She will always live on in this house,” Bremer continued, “and will always be a part of Jake’s life.”

But the Bremer family is a shining light of hope in a dark fear that casts a shadow on most families with special needs kids. “From the messages I received from people,” Kerry explained, “there are a lot of parents out there who wonder ‘What will happen to my child if something happens to me?’ And I received many messages from people saying that this gave them hope; that there will be someone to step up and care for their child.” Not only did Kerry step up, but the entire family stepped up to welcome Jake with open arms.

The commitment that Jake, Kerry, and the rest of her family made to this new lifelong loving adventure inspired the folks at ABC and Good Morning America. As part of GMA’s month-long “Secret Santa Surprise, the Bremen family was gifted a trip to Wyoming with Adventures by Disney. Jake loves horses, so the family will go horseback riding as well as rafting, hiking, fishing, and more in an action-packed guided adventure through Jackson Hole and Yellowstone National Park.

Wishes of adventure and horses granted after this real-life fairy godmother granted one woman’s dying wish to leave her son in a loving home.
