Before we start this piece we must say, this post will contain spoilers for The Rise of Skywalker so if you haven’t seen the movie yet… you’ve been warned! Seriously, don’t read if you haven’t seen the film!

Fans have been praising Lucasfilm and Disney for including a kiss between two women towards the end of the movie when The Resistance is celebrating the fall of The First Order. While fans are right to praise Disney for this inclusion, it would seem that they are quick to go back on inclusion when it might impact the finances of the film overseas.

Well, that isn’t entirely fair to say, believe it or not, there are many countries across the Middle East that state that loving someone of the same sex is illegal. This, unfortunately, means that for many countries in the Middle East, the first same-sex kiss in Star Wars history will not be seen in the Middle East.

The thing about the kiss is that it isn’t even that big of a deal, it’s not involving characters that anyone really cares about and the camera only pans over to them for a couple of seconds. It’s a shame but it appears to be a legal edit more than one Disney is making for financial reasons.

The kiss aside, the film has been getting a mixed reception from both fans and critics alike but then when have Star Wars fans ever universally liked anything that isn’t Empire Strikes Back? Even Disney’s CEO Bob Iger has stepped in to comment on Star Wars fan backlash.

The large team here at ITM have all really enjoyed the movie and personally I would rate The Rise of Skywalker in my top three Star Wars films.

What do you think of Disney removing the kiss scene and have you enjoyed The Rise of Skywalker? Let us know in the comments below!
