Uber is a highly popular option for those looking to visit Universal Orlando Resort. Travelers often opt for rideshare services like Uber or Lyft so that they don’t have to pay for parking or use their hotel shuttle to and from the resort. But now that Universal and Uber have joined forces, some guests might not want to pay a surcharge to get picked up from the Universal theme parks while on vacation.
“Uber and Universal are co-investing in a better and more reliable experience for park guests and Uber riders,” said Uber spokesman Javi Correoso to Spectrum News.
Uber began implementing this surcharge last month as part of a partnership between the popular rideshare service and the central Florida resort. This deal between Uber and Universal also includes plans for a new Uber ride pick-up waiting area that Uber will build on the top floor of the Universal Orlando Resort parking garage. Money from this $4 surcharge will go toward new signage throughout the resort as well as extra personnel who will be on hand to help direct traffic during the resort’s peak hours.
Keep in mind that this $4 upcharge only applies to pick-ups from Universal Orlando Resort’s two theme parks (Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure), Volcano Bay water park, and Universal CityWalk. It does not apply to drop-offs. Pick-ups from hotels on Universal property are not subject to the fee.
Universal‘s partnership with Uber comes not long after Disney began a partnership with Lyft for the resort’s Minnie Van service, which began a couple of years ago at Walt Disney World Resort and has since grown in popularity and amenities. At this time, a surcharge will not be implemented for Universal Orlando guests using the Lyft rideshare service.
“At this time, Lyft has not been asked to implement any additional fees related to pick-up or drop-off at the park, but remain committed to working with Universal Orlando and providing reliable, affordable transportation to riders,” said Lyft spokeswoman Kaitlyn Carl to Spectrum News.
