Star Wars fans all over the world are eagerly counting down for the release of the last Skywalker Saga film, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The movie is set to release in a few weeks on December 20, 2019. But for one fan, that might be too long of a wait.

A terminally ill patient at Rowans Hospice in Waterlooville, Hampshire is a self-proclaimed massive Star Wars fan. He was really looking forward to seeing the film with his son. Unfortunately, time was not on his side.

The hospice took to social media to make their plea known. They posted on Twitter asking for help to make this man’s dying wish come true.

The original tweet sent out just a few days ago asked: “Can you help? We have a patient who’s a HUGE #StarWars fan. Sadly, time is not on his side for the 20th Dec. His wish is to see the final Star Wars film #RiseOfSkywalker with his young son. If you know ANYBODY who might be able to make it happen, please share with them. Thank you”.

Rowans Hospice later replied to the tweet and tagged Star Wars star, Mark Hamill and film director JJ Abrams in what appeared to be an effort to reach someone of influence that could make this wish come true.

The same day, Bob Iger, CEO of Disney replied to the tweet and asked for more details in an attempt to make this dying man’s wish a reality.

Shortly after, the patient, who wishes to remain anonymous, was able to celebrate Thanksgiving with his son in the most epic way! Joined by a Wookie, a Stormtrooper, and a Jedi, the man and his son were able to screen the film early thanks to Disney and Iger’s efforts.

Iger tweeted:
“On this Thanksgiving, we at @Disney are grateful to be able to share #TheRiseOfSkywalker with a patient and his family @RowansHospice. May the force be with you and with us all!”

Lisa Davies, health care support worker who brought the patient’s wish to the attention of staff, said in response to the amazing news: ‘I am utterly speechless. We cannot thank Disney enough for confirming that they will be able share the film to fulfill our patients wish.

Davies added: “We totally appreciate that they have had to move mountains to make this happen…‘The response from everyone, including the Star Wars community, has been absolutely phenomenal over the last few days. So, a massive thank you to every single person that has shared our post and given their time to help make this possible. We also want to thank the media for covering the story and totally respecting the privacy of the family.”

We are so happy this family got their wish! Our thoughts and prayers are with them in this season.
