More Updates at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Among the massive overhauls that have been happening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney announced the closing of the Great Movie Ride during the D23 Expo in 2017. Just as they heard the fans sigh in disapproval, they quickly changed the mood of the audience with the announcement of the attraction that would replace the old classic, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Attraction.
We have been eagerly awaiting news of the opening date, and really just any updates on this attraction, but haven’t really received much. Until now!
Just today, the Disney Parks Blog revealed one of the new posters for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Attraction, and it is adorable!
So far, we know this attraction will be installed on both coasts; at the Walt Disney World Resort, and Disneyland Resort in California. Although no official opening date has been released, we do know we can anticipate an opening sometime Spring 2020.
What we know about Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Attraction
When we first heard about the attraction during the D23 Expo, we learned from Disney Parks Chairman Bob Chapek that the attraction will be the first-ever Mickey-themed ride-through attraction, with a new original story and lovable attraction theme song.
We also know that the attraction will feature new visual technology Disney’s Imagineers are calling “2 1/2 D” in which no 3-D glasses will be required to feel like there are three-dimensional images around you. And that it is set to be “…one of the boldest…most impossible things I’ve ever worked on in almost 40 years of being an Imagineer. And you know what? That’s what I love about it. Well, that, and Mickey,” Kevin said. “This is not going to be a small attraction, it’s going to be game-changing.”
The Great Movie ride closed its doors to guests forever on August 13, 2017. We have been anxiously awaiting more news about this new attraction since!
While we are grateful for the poster reveal, we can’t wait to hear even more about this new ground-breaking attraction!
