OC Register reports that Disneyland Cast Members detected the smell of chlorine in the Rivers of America area of the southern California theme park. Disneyland Resort officials stated that the Cast Members noticed the chlorine-like smell at approximately 4 a.m. on Sunday morning and then called the Anaheim Fire Department as a precaution.
Anaheim Police Department spokesperson Shane Carringer said that after receiving reports of “a chemical odor related to the water treatment” of the Rivers of America, the Anaheim Fire and Rescue responded. They examined 15 people at the scene and transported one person to receive medical care out of caution. The person transported had complained of dizziness but had no shortness of breath.
Carringer also stated that Anaheim Fire officials tested the Rivers of America and the surrounding area and found no presence of chemicals, as well as no chlorine in the air.
This response to reports of possible chemicals had no impact on the Disneyland Resort theme parks and operations continued as normal.
The Rivers of America area of Disneyland Park is located adjacent to the Frontierland, New Orleans Square, and Critter Country lands. It is the home to Mark Twain Riverboat Sailing Ship Columbia, canoes, and Tom Sawyer Island attractions and can be seen from several viewpoints and walkways at Disneyland. It is also the location where the nighttime spectacular Fantasmic! is performed nightly.
