Are they sure they want an accurate representation based on REAL percentages?
There are going to be a lot of professional(add any ethnic/orientation you like here) groups upset.
The inmates are now running the asylum/
This is completely insane. It is nothing less than censorship, and an insult to every writer, male or female.
Oh, you have a great book about a captain hunting down a white whale – and just how many women are there on board? What? Sorry, we won´t publish your chauvinist drivel, Mr. Melville.
That script of yours about the three astronauts who have to abort their moon mission is quite intersting – now if we could just make one of the astronauts female, and one a black muslim? And of course there is no way all the wifes can just sit at home, waiting for the men at Nasa to fix the problem. Let´s make the flight commander an overweight woman – then we can talk…
While I’m all for Equal Rights as a gay man, and happy for a fair representation for all – I’m happier for a realistic representation. If Disney were to do a film based on my town in England there wouldn’t be any or at least very few black people – I don’t even know of any black women who live in my town (I’m not being racist, I didn’t speak to a black woman until I was 18 and went to London for the first time). There isn’t a gay scene in my town, you have to go 3 hours on a train to Manchester for any signs of LGBT life. So long as the story is a true representation of the time and location then great, if it’s an equal spread just for the sake of ticking boxes then it tends to feel forced rather than fluid.
Stupid and insulting!
So now we have to rely on “AI” for political correctness? This over-sanitization is going too far! Plus, someone will still find fault with the final, “non-biased” product! Hope the project crashes and burns.
This would be a great topic for a horror/comedy. Too bad it is real.
First of all, a writer comes up with these ideas themselves. They have the power to include how many males and females they want in their story. They could bring up one’s race, but it may not be important to the story and is only decided by the film director or producers.
This piece of A.I. limits creative freedom more than it does providing it. A studio that forces diversity into a story doesn’t work, because then it doesn’t come off natural or sincere.
Disney can do better. Instead of relying on technology to determine a character’s gender or race, try using your brains to come up with interesting and relatable characters that don’t offend certain genders and various races all at once. You want more females? That’s fine, but don’t portray males like they’re all pathetic or evil. You want people of color? Great! Just remember to be a tolerant of whites, too. Hollywood needs to wake up and realize all these stories they release with men only being misogynistic is just as bad as making women misandrists. No matter what’s written, it’s still a hit piece on that gender or race. It’s hate, and it needs to stop.
Disney , like so many others , has yet to learn that trying to make a “perfect ” pc , sjw magical dream world just does not work and is doomed to fail , ie Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge .
