At least, that’s what this couple did, which resulted in an epic Toy Story/Disney-themed wedding that featured the grooms as Buzz Lightyear and Woody.
Garrett and Jason both grew up being major fans of both Disney and the Disney Parks. Garrett was a frequent visitor growing up but when him and Jason finally booked their first trip together to Disneyland, this was they realized how special Disney really was to them. In fact, it was so special that the couple decided to theme their entire wedding after it.
To do this, the couple sparred no details–whether it was decor, food, their attire, and their guest’s attire. And in the end, the couple made out with their own happily ever after.
The Disney-theming first began during the ceremony, which both Garret and Jason arrived to in outfits inspired by the color scheme of Buzz Lightyear and Woody from “Toy Story.”
The couple told Pop Sugar that they wanted to dress up like the Disney characters because they love Halloween, Disneybounding, and cosplay at Comic-Con. Why they chose “Toy Story” characters was because “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” is one of Garret’s favorite Disney songs. Additionally, it was the song Garret wanted him and Jason to dance to for their first dance as husbands. For that reason, Jason dressed as Woody.
As enchanting as the ceremony was, the Disney magic of this wedding hit another level at the reception, where every guest dressed as a Disney character!
This is also where Garrett and Jason’s themed attire raised the bar as well. Both changed out of their suits and into full Woody and Buzz Lightyear costumes!
And no, the magic didn’t stop there. For decorations, the couple wanted to take advantage of Disney-themed center pieces, which revolved around classic Disney movie VHS clamshells. Each center piece included the VHS clamshell in the center and then different decorations from the film arranged around it.
Some of the movies used as inspiration for the center pieces included, “The Lion King,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Snow White,” “Moana,” and much more! Looking at these images, you might be thinking that some of these films were released way after VHS tapes. Well, to recapture this VHS magic with more modern films, Jason designed the clamshells for some of the newer Disney films in the same retro style.
No wedding is complete without a cake! And in celebration of the couple’s Disney/Toy Story-themed wedding, the couple had a white cake with the silhouette of Woody and Buzz.
For the couple’s first dance, they got together with a friend for a special choreographed arrangement. The dance featured a jazz version of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” with a Spanish version of the song. Their friend mixed elements from salsa, tango, paso doble, and Foxtrot into the special number.
