Regardless of how talented she is, Lizzo doesn’t have the life experience to bring the gravity needed to the role of Ursula. Melissa McCarthy may not, either – since the character is based on John Waters’ muse Divine, give it to Harvey Fierstein, who did a tremendous job as Ursula live at the Hollywood Bowl.
I’d actually go for someone like Tituss Burgess. He’d be a great Ursula. If we want to cast a woman, I feel like acting wise, Jada Pinkett Smith could do it justice. Pretty much, Fish Mooney was Gotham’s Ursula, but if she was a mob boss.
Just get Hayley Orrantia as Ariel and Hugh Jackman as King Triton, and we might get a live-action remake that’s worth watching.
Live action is not animation – and Lizzo doesn’t have the acting chops to pull off the role. Turn off the sound and watch her – there’s nothing really there, she’s expressionless. McCarthy on the other hand, you turn off the sound on anything she’s done in the past 10 years and you know what she’s doing in the scene, you know her emotions.
Poor loser, trying to take away someone else’s job.
