Pikachu has officially blasted his first thunderbolt at “Avengers: Endgame” as “Pokémon: Detective Pikachu” earned $20.7 million last Friday at the box office, its first day in theaters. “Avengers: Endgame,” the earth shattering finale Marvel fans everywhere are still crying over, only earned $16.06 million on the same day.

Since its release, “Avengers: Endgame” has been the highest-grossing film every day its played in theaters, until last Friday. This was when “Pokémon: Detective Pikachu” slid into the higher earning spot at the box office. Although, as you probably already guessed, “Avengers: Endgame” is still expected to top “Pokémon: Detective Pikachu” at the box office by a pretty great amount.

This past weekend, “Detective Pikachu” did earn $58 million in the US, making it the biggest opening weekend ever for a video game movie in North America. However, in comparison to the monumental $1.2 billion “Avengers: Endgame” saw its opening weekend, “Detective Pikachu” does fall a little short.

As of this morning, “Detective Pikachu” has made over $170 million at the global box-office, with major numbers coming from overseas. The film saw $40.8 million in revenue from China and decent numbers coming from the United Kingdom ($6.6 million), Germany ($5 million), and Mexico ($4.97 million).

“Avengers: Endgame” is still standing very strong at the box office as the film has now grown to $1.7 billion overseas, placing it right behind “Avatar” ($2.02 billion) on international box office charts. The film is now the second-biggest global movie of all time with a total of $2.48 billion in earnings. “Avatar” currently sits at $2.78 billion, where it still sits in first place.

Early reports questioned if “Pokémon: Detective Pikachu” would annihilate “Avengers: Endgame” at the box office. Although, from this past weekend’s numbers, it doesn’t seem it will ever beat endgame.
