Another Marvel series is in the works for Disney+, which is planned to launch sometime this year. According to Variety, a Hawkeye series starring Jeremy Renner is currently in development for Disney’s upcoming streaming service.
Variety reports: “The project is said to be an adventure series in which Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, will pass the torch to Kate Bishop. Bishop is a Marvel Comics character who took up the Hawkeye mantle after Barton. She is also a member of the group known as the Young Avengers.”
The series hasn’t officially been announced but The Hollywood Reporter also confirmed the news. Disney, Marvel, and reps for Renner have declined to comment. However, there are already other similar Marvel series in development for Disney+ focusing on characters like Falcon and Winter Soldier, Vision and Scarlet Witch, and Loki. Each of these series is expected to include six to eight episodes and they’ll be produced by Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige.
Renner’s first appearance as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was an uncredited cameo in “Thor” (2011). He went on to appear in “The Avengers” (2012), “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (2015), and “Captain America: Civil War” (2016). He also stars in the upcoming “Avengers: Endgame,” the follow-up to “Avengers: Infinity War,” which arrives in theaters on April 26.
With “Avengers: Endgame” breaking box office pre-sale records, the Marvel excitement is definitely high right now. As more and more Marvel-centered shows go into development for Disney+, it seems like it’s going to be a must-have streaming service for Marvel fans who want to see more of the characters who have yet to star in their own movie.
