Thursday, November 8th, Mickey Mouse’s 90th anniversary will be celebrated with Mickey: The True Original Exhibition, a 16,000 square-foot interactive pop-up art exhibition in New York City.

The exhibition features both historic and contemporary artwork inspired by Mickey’s status as a “true original.” The show is curated by designer Darren Romanelli and includes work by featured artists Kenny Scharf, Amanda Ross-Ho, and Shinique Smith. More artists will be announced in the coming weeks.

Before the exhibition opens in November 2018, Scharf, Ross-Ho, and Smith will preview their work in three pop-up locations across the country. Each artist pays tribute to a piece of classic Mickey Mouse merchandise: a Mickey Mouse watch, a plush, and a t-shirt. Below, take a peek at Kenny Scharf’s “Cosmic Cavern,” inspired by the Mickey Mouse watch.

“As Walt said, ‘I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing—that it was all started by a mouse.’ From ‘The True Original Exhibition’ to a year-long celebration in our parks around the world, we are honoring the deep connection that families and fans have made with Mickey and Minnie Mouse for nearly a century,” said Bob Chapek, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Consumer Products.

The exhibit is open Tuesday – Sunday from 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM and closed on Mondays. You must purchase a ticket in advance to enter; no tickets are available at the venue. For more information, head over to the exhibit website.
