12 immersive themed hotels Disney and Universal need to build

Universal Studios theme parks might want to also jump on the heavily hyped hotel hot topic. Their long history and vast library of movies make for a great source of themes.  Add in the other intellectual properties the parks partake of, and several solutions for spectacular overnight experiences emerge.

7. Jurassic Park

If the resurrection of dinosaurs succeeded in making Jurassic Park popular, a place to stay for visit might also be needed.  Rooms with a “view” of the various roaming creatures could offer a unique experience. A dino-enhanced lazy river based on the first part of Island of Adventure’s Jurassic Park River Ride would make a unique experience for those relaxing by the pool.

8. Wonders of the Wizarding World

What could possibly make a vacation more magical than staying in any one of the four common room sleeping quarters or waking up aboard the Knight Bus?  Other potential potions for perching overnight could include 12 Grimmauld Place or an elaborate quidditch tent.

9. & 10. Universal Monsters

If any of the various Universal properties scream for themed immersive environments, their classic monster films top the list.  With host of horror heavies to pull from, spending a night in a room with coffin shaped furniture and castle-like walls would make any “Dracula” fan happy.  Perhaps a slab or two from Doctor Frankenstein’s lab or even an Egyptian mummy motif would make a fiendishly fun hotel room.   There would have to be a monster bar stocked with boos and spirits. (10) Bonus: add a separate Bates Motel wing.

11. Major Motion Picture Studio

Reaching as far back into their film vault as the 1913 “Ivanhoe” movie, Universal’s treasure chest of motion pictures could be used to “stage” filming of any of these fine features for dining and room themes.  Imagine a 1920’s air plane themed room based upon “The Great Air Robbery” or “American Graffiti” 1950’s style suite, or even a Rocky and Bullwinkle themed family focused room.

12. Sci-Fi Outpost

With a retro futuristic design, Universal could easily fill out this science fiction outpost with staples from its own film and TV library.  Rooms could easily be based on  films like “Buck Rogers,” “ Flash Gordon,” “Cowboys and Aliens,” “ET” and television shows like “Battlestar Galactica,” “the Bionic Man,” “Night Rider,” “Quantum Leap,” “SeaQuest DSV” and others.

A dozen different delightful dreamy ideas for over the top themed hotels at either Disney or Universal theme parks offers sky high suggestions for what the next evolution of themed entertainment might hold for these two creative companies.
