Face front, true believers: the only officially-licensed touring Marvel arena show is back! After premiering in 2014, “Marvel Universe LIVE!” has returned for a 65-date tour that launched this past weekend in Los Angeles, California.

Featured in this all-new version of the show are the Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Strange, who join returning favorites the Avengers and Spider-Man. Absent this time around are any and all mentions of the X-Men or Wolverine.

I saw the opening-night presentation of the new 2017 edition of “Marvel Universe LIVE!” at Staples Center in Downtown L.A. and for the most part, I was reasonably entertained. The spectacle combines death-defying superhero stunts with some admittedly fairly goofy dialogue and a story that ties in several different factions and dozens of characters from throughout the Marvel Universe, beating the upcoming “Avengers: Infinity War” to the punch.

“Marvel Universe LIVE!” is undeniably aimed at younger audiences, and kids will undoubtedly get a big kick out of seeing their favorite characters duke it out in person, but adults may find themselves rolling their eyes at what can only be described as a rather sizable cheese-factor. Still, for tried-and-true Marvel fans, this might be the only venue outside of a movie theater to see Spider-Man swing dizzyingly from the rafters (now that Broadway’s “Turn Off the Dark” is no more) or the Incredible Hulk go on a smash-rampage.

The current run of the “Marvel Universe LIVE!” tour is amazingly already scheduled throughout the next year and a half, stopping in most American states and even a brief foray into Canada. Be sure to visit the tour’s official website for more information and ticketing resources. Excelsior!
