Michelle Pfeiffer, Laurence Fishburne among cast announced for Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp” during San Diego Comic-Con 2017

Some exciting casting announcements for “Ant-Man and the Wasp” were made during San Diego Comic-Con 2017.

“Batman Returns” star Michelle Pfeiffer joins the film as Janet van Dyne, mother of Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly). During the first film, we learned Janet had disappeared after shrinking down to subatomic size. At the end of the movie, Hope received her mother’s Wasp suit, allowing her to follow in her footsteps and defeat villains alongside Ant-Man.

Laurence Fishburne (Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice) is also joining the cast as Dr. Bill Foster. Known to comic book fans as Black Goliath, the character is a biochemist who works with Hank Pym (Michael Douglas). His character has the opposite ability of Ant-Man and the Wasp and is able to grow in size.

Other casting announcements for “Ant-Man and the Wasp”:

  • Hannah John-Kamen will play the Ghost, an anti-hero from the Marvel Comics who was originally a male character
  • Walton Goggins takes on the role of Sonny Burch, the chairman of Cross Technologies (home to villain Darren Cross) in the Marvel Comics
  • Randall Park will star as Jimmy Woo, who debuted in the “Yellow Claw” series and later worked for Nick Fury

Peyton Reed returns to direct the follow-up to “Ant-Man” (2015). Plot details for “Ant-Man and the Wasp” are still under wraps, but the film arrives in theaters on July 6, 2018.
