We toured the prison last July. The history of prisons is certainly not something I’ve ever considered before but this is a really interesting place. Eastern State Penitentiary was the first prison with indoor plumbing along with many other firsts. Located in Philadelphia, PA you can spend a few days touring the Philadelphia area. The Philadelphia Zoo is the first zoo in the U.S. There is also the Liberty Bell and many Colonial America Touristy things in the area.
Don’t forget the Mutter museum! (with an umlaut that I can’t offhand remember how to generate.) If you like creepy things, it’s absolutely a do-not-miss stop.
