    (Thank you.)

Nobody wants to say it, but this feels like the “Apology” do-over for Cars 2:
Cars 2 was schizophrenically two different movies–Lightning’s World Rally, and Mater’s Spy Caper–and from interviews at the time, sounded like Lasseter went in hoping for more of Lightning’s racing movie.
Early rumors have the Cars 3 story back on California’s scenic highways, and that scenic “Life is a highway” idea was the biggest thing missing from 2. The other was the idea of the characters’ friendship, which ended up reduced to just a subplot of the subplot.

I loved the first Cars movie! It used to be one I watched all the time; Cars 2 is one of the only Pixar movies I don’t own, I’m not a fan at all. So it makes me happy to hear that Cars 3 will be closer in tone to the first! I’m curious to see where the story will go and I love Radiator Springs and all the characters. Plus Cars Land at California Adventure is so wonderful.
